Wife and I, no kids, are making out first tip to Colorado later this year. We'll be there for 9 nights, and already have an AirBnB booked for last 6 nights in Colorado Springs that's about a 5 minute walk from the Broadmoor. We're trying to decide what to do with the first 3 nights, and have narrowed it down to Vail/Breckenridge vs. Estes Park. We'd like to do some lite hiking, maybe sledding/tubing but we won't be skiing or snowboarding. We'll probably spend time in Denver they day that we switch locations. Looking for good food options, breweries, attractions, museums, experiences, and other activities as well.

I'd like to book the other AirBnB this weekend, and probably a rental car as well. Advice on any other experiences/activities we need to book soon would also be appreciated.

We're really looking forward to the trip, as it will be our first time in the mountains. We're flying in and out of Denver, and work is reimbursing about 40% of my expenses so we have a larger budget to work with than usual. We're naïve to the area so any advice/tips are appreciated. TIA!

If you aren’t dead set on flying in/out of Denver, you may get in/out of CS cheaper, with an easy drive to Breckenridge/Summit County. But if you do Denver, stop in Idaho Springs for BBQ at Smoking Yard’s bbq. Neat old mining town.

Did Breck with the family last year and can’t wait to go back. Loved it.

Great hiking, mountain biking and at the top of the mountain they have tons of activities for kids

Looked into this, and it was about the same price but less convenient flight times. Will keep the bbq place in mind!

Any insight into how thst should effect our plans? I'd imagine that improves things in Breckenridge, but if it's not snowing heavily yet will Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park still be pretty accessible?

Probably. But it's going to be a coin flip on snow and you can get some big snows in fall at those elevations. The big advantage you have is the time window. You ought to be able to find some decent weather days.

Go eat breakfast at the Denver Biscuit Co whenever you travel to Denver. Breck or Vail are great, we skied at Breck two years ago and stayed at Lake Dillion this summer. If it is not to cold or snowing do the vail pass bike ride, 95% is down hill. There are companies around Lake Dillion that will bring you up and drop you off at the top of the pass. You ride through Copper and back to Lake Dillion. It is absolutely beautiful. IDK about the weather that time of year but the Rockies are always a fun time. Enjoy your trip

I really enjoyed hiking around Garden of the Gods, we had a good time going to red rocks, and Breckinridge is like a hallmark movie, especially that time of year so your wife should love it. Colorado is such an awesome state that you’ll find so many things to do in any town you stop in. I also would say make time for Estes Park…hopefully herds of elk will be going through and you can experience that.
