Have a Memphis trip planned for this weekend but with the winter storm it seems like this might not be the best idea at the moment. Anyone have a feel for what things may be closed this weekend? Is it going to be hellacious to get around the city? Just not sure if Memphis is like New Orleans and shuts down when a snow flurry hits the ground (I hope not). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Really cold we can deal with. Really cold and nothing open with impassable roads is not ideal.

Memphis is a miserable place on a normal day. I would imagine it can only be worse with the conditions expected. Just a quick search of news in Memphis shows me power outages, ice, accidents, flights canceled, etc and the worst is yet to come.

I completely disagree, I’ve had some great times in Memphis. But on a winter day, especially if there is snow, it’s probably a huge hassle. Any southern city is; where people aren’t used to it, and not everyone has 4 wheel drive or snow tires. I’d definitely prefer to be there when weather is nicer.

I have a sibling who lived an hour outside of downtown Memphis for about 20 years.

On the occasions we visited, we hit the notable sights; Sun Studios, Graceland, Beale Street, a few Grizzlies games, Mud Island, the Lorraine Hotel.

And.... that’s about a wrap.

After that, we had to make the circle bigger, Paris, TN, into Arkansas, Shiloh.

Fortunately they moved.

Once you get past the first few things to see in Memphis, there’s not much else to see.

Avoid rendezvous.

It’s not that great at all.

I just drove through this evening; covered in ice and wrecks everywhere.

Overton square area has picked up. Crosstown is worth checking out.

Seconded. Rendezvous sucks. The bbq sauce and the spice mix is pretty good, though, you can get that at the store.

Just got to Memphis for the weekend. No issues on the roads if you drive sensibly. Not sure where to go for dinner(bbq). Thinking Central BBQ.

Lived there for 4 years......Memphis drivers are the worst on a beautiful day.

x100 on a snow and sleet day.
