re: Long TSA lines at MSY American Airlines?

quote:Yes, it's $100 for five years. But its only advantage is it allows shorter wait times for clearing customs at certain U.S. airports upon return to the U.S. We almost always return from an international trip at the ATL airport and their customs wait time is maybe one minute. So no big deal to go through customs there.
Isn't global entry just $15 more? I don't have either, but I might opt for that instead
The main disadvantage is you have to apply for it at an airport that has customs officials. The only airport like that in Louisiana is MSY.
If we could have applied for it at the same Baton Rouge office where we applied for our TSA pre-check, we would have gotten Global Entry but we didn't want to have to drive to MSY just to apply.

Even delta precheck was long this week.

That's nothing, at O'Hare over a month ago I was getting close to the TSA check and they pulled us out of line like they were opening a new check point, sent us around the fricking block only to arrive back at the same place now in the BACK of the line!!!

I flew out Thursday morning at 6:30 and we waited over 30 minutes in security. We've thought about paying for pre-check but for our travel, I don't think it would save us much time....it would only change where we wait. When we travel to Orlando for Disney the bus gets us there the same time regardless of whether we pre-check or not. When we fly out of MSY we arrive about 60-75 minutes prior to flight time and I really don't know if I would arrive any later than that.
If I traveled monthly or could expense it, yeah why not but I'm just not sure there is much value for us there.

I"ve been hearing about long TSA lines recently and was wondering if anyone has seem security lines longer than usual?
This depends on what time of day your flight is. If it's early morning (one of the 6-7:30am flights), the lines for terminal C are usually moderately long (give or take a half hour).
The easiest solution for you is if you get to the airport that day and if you see the general security line is very long, go over to the american airlines counter and buy priority access for $10. Whenever I use the priority access line at MSY there is no one in line and I kinda feel bad bypassing everyone waiting in line. Plus you'd get to board your flight earlier as well

Holy crap, all those bags in the parking lot
. I'd be willing to bet that of those 3000 bags, not a single one was a problem, thus pissing off 3,000 passengers for no reason.
I think it's time for the TSA to go away. Everyone's getting fed up with the security lines, they clearly don't do shite with luggage at the airport, and I'm tired of the X-ray screening where I've gotta hold my hands up like I won't get shot. Just send everyone through the metal detectors that are still installed at every airport...

The computers that screen the bags wasn't working for some reason. That's what caused the back up.
Imagine how many people's vacations was slightly ruined cause of their frick up though?

It's nearing the end of the spring convention season so I would expect the depart lines to start to calm down some.

I find if you stick with early morning flights it isn't too bad. I have never had much of a wait if it was 6 am or so. Any later than 7 I imagine it starts getting bad. Flying to Seattle in June and plan on getting to the airport plenty early. We don't have pre-check and I feel it isn't worth it since we don't fly very often, maybe once a year. I can just get to the airport early.

Flying out of San Antonio the last couple of weeks has been interesting.
Precheck has been pretty backed up, but the priority line has been empty.
Pretty funny to see all of the business people backed up in Precheck and no one in the priority line. You still get most of the precheck benefits in the priority and/or regular line. This guys does NOT like lines. Eff that.

Keep refreshing the window constantly and something will open up. Also, I asked when I was there, they totally accept walk-ins.

Reminds me of a video that is trending on YouTube today. Huge line at TSA
I flew into Midway Friday morning(the day that video was filmed) and out of O'Hare yesterday.
The line at Midway at 8AM was already getting long. I took the train into the city and if that line got to the train station it was long as shite
O'Hare Terminal 3 was a mad house as well. The two checkpoints I saw both had hundreds of people in them. S
So thankful I don't deal with that stuff any more. Funny thing about Global Entry at O'Hare earlier this year was I have no idea how much time I saved, because you split off well before you see the frickery.

Lines aren't bad compared to most airports. I signed up for Global Entry/TSA precheck. I got my conditional approval last week. The soonest follow up appointment was August 9! Government efficiency.
The best part is the interviews are scheduled for 15 or 30 minutes or whatever, for only a few hours a day, yet the "interview" takes all of 5 minutes, and is really them just confirming all the details on your app verbally to make sure it is all correct.
I'd try to see if I could squeeze in any time I happened to be at the airport.

Airlines have been adding new flights out MSY like a mofo lately. With more to come.
Posted on 5/24/16 at 10:17 am to cajuncarguy
Any changes to TSA wait times out of MSY? I booked a 9:15 AM flight months ago thinking I could cruise in after breakfast.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Depends on the timing and the concourse.
I rarely wait more than 10-15 min
This. I had a less than 5 minute wait flying on American around 8:30 on a Tuesday morning last week. I hear the line did get a little longer a little later in the morning.
