Anybody interested in daily updates/itinerary/general thoughts in case you're planning a trip here relatively soon? We're in London for 5 days and Paris for 6...

I’d love to hear about what y’all enjoyed/didn’t enjoy in London. I’ll be going in a couple months and have never been.

Nah, doing the direct BA flight. We are, however, in the upper cabin business class, so I can fill you in on that.

All kinds of train and Air France part-time strikes going on in France now. Good luck it doesn’t affect you. I just arrived in París yesterday from ATL and drove to Lyon and enjoying life.

The business seats on the BA 787 are nothing special, and the service is average at best. Congrats on the lie flats, but those seats are not worth the price on that flight.

The coach seats on the BA direct are narrow as hell, with an armrest that does not fully fold up. So if you're lucky enough to get a vacant seat, you can't spread over without incurring a kidney dent. Did that 2x last year, and will repeat later this year....will probably use points for the economy plus, as that section is only 2 across, with a wider aisle and better seat pitch.

DAY 1:

Left Austin at 6:30 PM Tuesday, arrived London 10:00 AM Wednesday. While DeathValley snubs his nose at the business class - it's certainly better than squeezing into coach. Are you on a king bed, no. Are you much more comfortable for a 9 hour flight than you normally would be, yes. I found the service to be just fine and food decent enough. That said, they're using an older 747 for this flight now, and there was no WIFI, which kinda sucked.

Once we landed, we freshened up a little in the BA lounge, picked-up some chocolate croissants and coffee, then grabbed the express train to Paddington Station, then taxi over to S. Kensington where we're staying. The express train was just that - we started in Terminal 5, had a brief stop in Terminal 2/3, and then on to Paddington - maybe 20 minutes total?

Dropped our stuff off in the flat (we went this route instead of hotel), then walked around the neighborhood - grabbed a meat plate and Peroni at a little Italian place (La Bottega), picked-up a handful of grocery items from market, and a nice bottle of Sesi Rosso di Montalcino from a wine shop (Handford). About to head out and grab dinner at Bumpkin, then probably head back and get some sleep...or go to a pub for a pint...then head back and get some needed rest.

Sounds like a good start to the trip.

For the flights, we will be flying on Delta Comfort unless we happen to get upgraded (I'm only Silver Medallion status so I doubt it, but you never know.) It's only a 6 hour flight from Boston, so Comfort seating should be just fine.

Are y'all doing any "fine dining" meals? I want to do one really nice dinner out but there are just so many options to choose from.

Have a good trip. Look forward to hearing more.

We’re doing one in London, which I guess might be considered fine dining, it’s called Scott’s.

Doing Joel Robuchon’s “L’ Atelier” in Paris...

L'Atelier is great. Go for lunch if you can. I was reminded again last week after dinner at Next in Chicago, just how much I prefer a big lunch to a long dinner, especially when traveling.

If still in London, Barafina is fantastic (there are IIRC 3 of them) Spanish food. Frenchie in Covent Garden also great. The Duck and Rice is a fun, Asian restaurant.

Pubs: Ship's Tavern, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Lamb and Flag, The Blackfriar, and countless others.

Paris, if you like oysters Regis Huiterie.
Enjoy!

I have been to Scott's. It is an excellent seafood restaurant in Mayfair. You will enjoy it.
