I have a potential for a short trip this weekend leaving from BR or NO, kids 4 and 2, leave Saturday morning return Monday evening

Open to most suggestions either <7 hours drive or quick flight (pref nonstop <4hrs)

Catch is that I have a conflicting event Friday night that will determine if we can go on this trip or not.
Would like to have plans ready to confirm at the exact moment.

Options I had thought of:
-Atlanta - nonstop flight, could stay downtown do Aquarium, Coke museum, Children's Museum, wouldn't need a rental car (or could drive 8hrs I guess)
-Houston - idk what you do in Houston but it's got stuff
-Dallas - same but would need rental car or have to drive
-Austin - doesn't seem super kid friendly and very hot this weekend
-Nashville

I don't think quick beach trip or Biloxi etc would be best since going to better beach in a few weeks anyway, could save that as last resort

Would love to fly somewhere cooler but I don't think that's happening

I'm aware this is a strange request but open to suggestions from the travel board

little past your 7 hour drive range but Branson may be ideal for kids.

Check out Lake Hamilton near Hot Springs. Probably hot there too, but some nice shaded hikes nearby at Lake Catherine State Park. Have tubing trips nearby on some slow rivers, depending on current.

If you can leave out of NOLA and get seats, direct flights under 3 hours include DC, Chicago, NY, Charlotte, Denver, alot of places.

Also last minute hotels in bigger cities would be more available, and many of those places have walkable cores and good transit including to/from the airport so you won't need a rental car.

St Louis would be an excellent choice.

The Cubs are in town, which means downtown will be packed all weekend.

The city Museum is among the best place in the country for Kids - and adults.

World class Zoo along with forest Park. And also Grants farm.

Union station aquarium and ferris wheel

Ft Myers, FL area. Great beaches. Can get direct flight easily from NOLA.

San Antonio (fly and rent car). Riverwalk. Alamo. Fiesta Texas. Sea World. Short drive to New Braunfels (Schlitterbahn/River tubing).

Chicago. Direct flights a plenty. Find a hotel near a CTA station. No need to rent a car. Tons of museums. Navy Pier. Sox should be in town if Cubs aren’t.

Do NOT drive to Dallas. You’ll spend the whole trip in the car. It’s hot AF here right now. Great Wolf Lodge is right outside D/FW Airport. Gaylord next door has its own resort style pool for families. Hilton Anatole also has an amazing resort pool for families and is close to downtown. Perot Museum. Clyde Warren Park. Dallas World Aquarium. Dallas Zoo. Dallas Museum of Art has free admission.

Denver, CO Springs, Salt Lake out west might offer cooler options.

Would you seriously suggest someone driving that far with two young kids from a Saturday to Monday. That sounds like pure hell. LOL

Thanks for suggestions everyone, they will come in handy for future more well-planned out trips especially in regards of things to do in these cities.

Given flight prices are astronomical to most of these places, decided on Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine. Kids should enjoy.

They'd probably love Candytopia as well. All the folks I know that have been said it's really fun and the kids love it.

Also, NASA and the Museum of Natural Science. It's with the butterfly center and has dinosaurs. It's excellent. There's also some combo passes for various museums, NASA, etc. that might be priced well on visithouston.com.

With kids being 4 and 2, it’s all about fun and not about what you see or where you go. They won’t remember going to a baseball game or seeing a museum.

I’d find a resort with a great pool and some kid activities and spend the entire time there.

Orlando is bound to have something. You could even schedule a character breakfast or dinner at a Disney hotel without having to buy a park ticket (if there’s any reservations available).

I've been looking at taking the kids the Hyatt Coconut Resort and can fly direction from CHS to Fort Myers on the cheap. I suppose a rental car is a requirement?
