This was a rescheduled trip of one that was originally planned for last year but was cancelled because of COVID. We had a large group so a visit during hot August was the best we could do with so many schedules.

First and foremost - get the Disney app. It’s critical for up to the minute wait times, ordering food, room key, etc.

The Disney Magical Express shuttle to/from the airport is no longer so magical. You’ll need to recover your own luggage and bring it to the shuttle. No more luggage tags and luggage appearing in your room.

The parks opened earlier than the official times posted every day we went. Sometimes a ride would open at the same time as the main entrance but not always. The wait times were manageable and we rode all of our “must ride” attractions at each park in a single visit. Maybe capacity is still down but no way to know for sure. We bought park hoppers and used them most days.

Masking is enforced to different degrees “indoors.” Indoors could include while waiting in line outside. In general, when you’d pass a cast member, they’d remind you to pull your mask up but then people would lower them and get reminded by the next cast member along the way. You had to wear the masks on rides and attractions.

Mobile dining through the app worked great and we were always able to choose a pickup time that was more or less immediate. We had a couple of big dinners at Be Our Guest and Tusker House that were just okay and not worth the $$$.

Fastpasses were still not being used but all the FP signage was still up. It was supposedly done so that disabled people could still use the FP queue to bypass the Standby line. That didn’t stop a steady stream of people from approaching the cast member to ask.

Getting a Rise of the Resistance boarding pass was not easy. A couple of us tried in the morning and failed and a larger group tried at 1:00pm and we got a pass. The ride was okay but some easy changes would make it much better. I’m not a Star Wars fan but all 3 of the Star Wars rides were good.

I ordered groceries from WalMart the day before our trip so they would be delivered shortly before our arrival time. The Front Desk had the groceries ready to go and the cold items had been refrigerated.

Disney is going to keep making changes in the near future so your experience might be different - just sharing what I saw.

Thanks for this info - I had just booked a January trip when the updated indoor mask ruling came out.

Will be continuously following for more posted experiences in next few weeks-months bc I won't do masks with a 3yo and 2yo at Disney prices, although Jan better than Aug.

Neither one of those are real good dinner places. Tusker House has a character breakfast with Donald that is decent, and BOG has a good lunch service.

Yup. Covid cut. And even that's going away at the end of the year, you will now need to make your own arrangements (Mears is going to offer a similar shuttle, but no bag service).

They will be back but likely a premium add-on.

Luckily, it was cloudy 3 of 4 park days with typical afternoon rains. Only one day was sunny/hot but even then, most lines are in the shade or even inside. We went back to the resort for naps or pool time and then headed back to the park in the afternoon. You can’t park hop until 2:00pm so it worked out well.

I would have preferred another time of year but COVID dealt us a bad hand and we made the most of it. Everyone had a great time.

Mask wasn’t that bad Easter week wearing it inside and outside except for stars wars land and dealing with wearing sunglasses
Star Wars land was very hot with the mask, hotter than ak
I actually liked having no fast passes…staying onsite with the parks opening early we were able to do a lot more than with fp.
Felt that we should have paid a cheaper rate bc they offered so much less for the lil ones

Agreed..so long as nobody can get them (outside of VIP tours, rider swap, etc, I like it). Once it becomes a premium purchase add on, the tables will definitely shift though

We are staying at Bay Lake Tower (three nights) and Animal Kingdom Lodge (three nights) then added two more nights at the Swan on the tail end at the end of September.

Hate that masks are back. But we went last September when it was 100% masks and my kids (2 and 5) did fine actually. (I didn’t make my youngest wear it. Just told them he wasn’t two yet)

Also hate meal plans aren’t back yet.

This is where grocery delivery changed the game. We ate breakfast in the room every day. We had the same food we were used to at home and we were able to hit the park rides first thing.

The other add on we didn’t get was the PhotoPass thing. I was going to get it but decided not to because of the mask requirement on rides.

I'm supposed to go with a large group next November. Hoping they cut a lot of the bullshite out but in the back of my mind know that isn't likely.

Things like extended park hours for resort guests and other “normal” operating procedures are coming back as soon as October 1, 2021. Other changes are bound to follow. I signed up for DFB Guide’s email list and they send lots of good info on changes.

Universal Studios didn’t even go back to mask mandates so I wouldn’t worry about November too much.

Have the Beach Club booked the week after Thanksgiving. Taking our kids for only the 2nd time. Figured masks would still be in play this year. No way I was doing that during the Summer Florida heat. Can’t wait for them to see the Christmas decorations!!

We booked a trip for January as well with our 4 year old twins. Hopefully this shite is at least in a seasonal dip then and some of the restrictions are loosened.
