I’m not sure how prevalent air conditioning is there.

I've been to Rome in July, it wasn't bad.

I was there in late August and it FELT that way to me. That may not have been reality, obviously, but it is crazy hot and muggy.

Its also chaotic as frick, you're outside a lot at various sites and for lines, and some places lack AC, which can all add to the perception.

Just got back from Italy. I was pretty surprised at how cheap it is in comparison to the US. I had previously been to Paris which was comparable to a big city in the US in terms of cost. If you end up renting a car be prepared for the most insane driving of your life. Vatican City is a must for Rome. For anything you plan on doing that requires reservations or tickets get it now. Jet lag was pretty easy this go around. We landed at 8 am, which was 12 am my time. We stayed up till 12 pm local time, took around a 2 hr nap and then was able make it to 11:30 pm local. Woke up the next day adjusted.

Be careful in Napoli homie. It's basically ran by the mafia. Only reason to be in Napoli is because you're on the way to Amalfi.

Soccer? AC Roma is in town this Saturday .... seems like that would be a nice experience. Tickets are available ... but a website mentioned a club membership of some kind. Any feedback about catching a match is appreciated.

Contact the club directly and inquire about tickets. I did that in Spain and was directed to a team store in town where I could buy tickets, kits, souvenirs, etc.

LINK is their English website. Might be easier to contact via Twitter (@OfficialASRoma)

The most delicious pizza of my life was 10 euros, was huge, and was at a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location.

Why would the mafia care about some American tourist?

I ended up getting a ticket in what seems to be a non home club or visiting club section ... without any restrictions. Should be an interesting experience.

Going to hold on to my two nights in Naples .. the more i read and watch the reputation seems to be overblown. My hotel looks really nice and there seems to be plenty to see in a few days.

We are only flying into Naples to take the train to the coast. I don’t plan to spend time there bc I am a beach person anyhow and can’t miss amalfi coast.

Between Rome and Florence, you may want to consider a night or two in one of the Tuscan hill towns. Those are amazing.

My father in law rented a villa in Panzano in Chianti for 3-4 days when we went a few years ago. I could have spent our entire trip in the Tuscan hills. So laid back and peaceful atmosphere

Check out www.monasterystays.com for cheap, safe, clean, quiet lodging! They have places all throughout Italy. My daughter stayed in one in Florence and thought it was great. If you’re Catholic, a lot of these offer daily Mass as well.

New Question: I have booked rail from the coast to Rome, and then Rome to Florence. But to start I am looking for airport transfers from Naples to the coast. I recently had unexpected abdominal surgery and I want to start easy and get my bearings after that long flight. Can anyone recommend transfer companies? I don't know who or what is reputable. Going from Naples directly to apartment in Vietri Sul Mare on a Sunday at noon.
