Southwest made me pay a change fee on switching to Houston, frick them.
When your original flight is officially cancelled, call back in and explain the situation. Write in if you need to but you should not have to pay

I called Southwest yesterday and they told me I would have to pay a change fee if I changed to Houston because they still planned to return to service on Wednesday.
I am hearing they have cancelled all flights through Friday so I'll try again when they officially cancel my flight.
I'd call back in again and ask the agent how they're going to operate a flight with no power. If they won't help, you need to push back more in these situations. There are bad apples in the batch sometimes when you call in

Cuse, I was supposed to leave out of MSY on Delta friday morning to go to UCLA game. Rather than wait on Delta, I bought one way to West Coast on American out of BTR on Thursday night for $223. I figure if Delta ends up canceling, I get a refund. If they don't cancel, I'll cancel and hopefully get a credit. I just didn't want to wait until Thursday and have very limited options.

Thanks, I never got an option for a callback and doing it online still shows a price difference. Is delta not allowing changing the origin airports under their waiver?
Depends on the agent. But online I wouldn't expect it to work unless they include the airport distance change within a few hundred miles. Maybe they'll update it today, but I think you're stuck waiting on the callback/on hold

Good call and the best solution given the circumstances. Book the confirmed way out of here for Thursday and when delta cancels ask for the refund. You can do that part online pretty easily

Cuse, anyway to find out if our flight back on United is still good to come back tomorrow afternoon? We haven’t got a cancelled notification yet

Plan on it being cancelled but as of current no cancellations on United for tomorrow afternoon. Southwest is cancelled all the way up through Thursday midday so if you were scheduled on them please rebook now

The SW website says Flights out of MSY aren’t resuming until Sunday, September 12th.

SW website says my parents nonstop flights from MSY to Vegas tomorrow evening at 6:25pm is now cancelled. Son of a bitch. I tried telling them to switch with me.

Where did you see that at on their website?

I called SW 2x earlier today and they were going to make me pay fare difference (expensive since last minute). However after say noon today it sounds like Southwest has cancelled all flights in and out of MSY through Sept. 11th (according to SW rep I just got off the phone with). My Thursday flight showed cancelled in the SW app, but I could not change it online. I called SW for the third time today and this time had no problem requesting a different departure location (Hobby) for my Sept 2nd flight (did not have to pay the fare differences). They also rebooked my Sept 6th return flight to MSY, now to HOU with no fare difference required. Call SW now to get your flight changed. I had a 35 min call-back time at 1:00 PM.

Glad you got things sorted but what a pain you got bad agents to start with

I set MSY as the departure airport and chose 25 different cities arriving at and none of them fly out until Sunday September 12th
I’m bored in my hotel room lol, if you’re wondering why I did that. Plus I know Orleans and Jefferson are shithole parishes

I think it was a combination of less than helpful agents along with the need for SW to pull the trigger on flight cancellations. I guess the more experienced agents can foresee the upcoming cancellations and help the customers out in advance (and maybe reducing their call load for the future).
SW may have also slightly changed their internal policies to be a bit more strict. Maybe helps keep people from taking advantage in less catastrophic circumstances.

Ok I looked on their webiste and saw that flights through the 11th were listed as "unavailable". I didn't necessarily know if that meant they weren't flying or just unavailable for booking due to the current situation. The reason I was wondering is that I have a flight leaving on the 12th.

We are scheduled to fly out of MSY Friday morning. I am on the phone now with an agent trying to get that changed to Gulfport or Jackson

Good because it is cancelled, just not publicly yet. There will be ZERO flights leaving MSY at all this week. NONE
