Hey Cuse, Jetblue flight Thursday MSY to BOS. Any way to get that changed to BTR? Will JB partner with American or delta?

You know, I didn't add JetBlue to the front page just because of character limits and I was thinking I should. Here we are .

So I had to ask my JetBlue friend and he said yes, you can get rebooked onto American (not delta or united) if you are going to NYC or Boston. Since you're headed to BOS, they should do it. You may get pushback from them as they technically don't operate to Baton Rouge. However given the hurricane and the likely cancelled flight, they should be able to do it. They also have a partnership with American into the Northeast so you may need to work that angle

No clue yet. MSY is in a wait and see approach currently. Maybe they'll get power in a day or two, maybe theyll get water in a week. I'd suggest driving or if on AA, rebook to BTR

Hey man, I'd ask you earlier, but what's your current opinion on Saturday flights? It's outside of the waiver window, so kind of in a holding pattern. My luck I will book elsewhere, and then it will be a go and lose the refund.

Canceled SW flight to PHX and got points back. Booked United BTR to PHX one way. Kept Monday 9/6 SW flight from PHX to MSY for now

Yeah this coming weekend has been up in the air since the event started and you're correct, still in a holding pattern. You're the plane circling in the air waiting for the thunderstorms to land, but you've got a full tank of gas .

Questions (and not meant to be personal)- 1.How often do you travel and 2.Do you have extra cash to spare? What I'd probably do is to book a ticket on another airline besides united out of BTR (AA or Delta) for BTR-XXX-EUG for saturday. This way, in case MSY still is having issues you have another flight booked to get out there. If MSY reopens, you can cancel the BTR ticket and get an e-credit back in the amount you spent for future travel (hence my question of how often do you travel). Looks like BTR-EUG is $250 for a one-way.

Note: Do not book this extra ticket on United. They will see a double reservation and cancel both of your reservations.

When are you supposed to come back?

Smart. You can do the same back into BTR if MSY is still not looking good in a few days

Updating the crowd here. Just went through and saw Southwest updated their waiver through September 5th so get to rebooking later this weekend if you can. Still no update on the actual conditions of MSY, BTR scheduled to get its first inbound flights tomorrow morning so fingers crossed it can get back to some sense of normalcy.

If MSY ends up being closed for a decent amount of time, I wonder if the airlines upgauge the aircraft types into BTR short term to make up for loss of MSY capacity. Will keep an eye on this.

Awesome advice and thanks. I fly about 6-8x per year, so that voucher isn't a big difference. Thanks for mentioning the separate airlines. I wouldn't have thought of that.

I am coming back the 11th, so hopefully it will all be sorted out by then.

Anybody have any experience with trying to return a rental car in these situations?

My car is at the MSY airport parking garage and we had to fly into IAH yesterday and rent a car one way. I'm getting no help from Thrifty other than the "if you return the car within 24 hours of it opening you'll be fine." No one can give me an answer of when it'll open etc...which I get but it's frustrating feeling like I'm in charge of calling every few hours.

Cuse, my mom had a 6 hour hold time with Delta to change hers, what do you suggest she does? Will the waiver work online?

I called Southwest yesterday and they told me I would have to pay a change fee if I changed to Houston because they still planned to return to service on Wednesday.

I am hearing they have cancelled all flights through Friday so I'll try again when they officially cancel my flight.

Both my departure and arrival flight have stops in Houston so hopefully I won't have any issue switching.

I'll believe it when I see it. Baton rouge at least had a flight land this morning already so it appears the airport is reopened for commercial flights

Call and request a callback. You can also try and chat with them. See if she can do it online as well

Thanks, I never got an option for a callback and doing it online still shows a price difference. Is delta not allowing changing the origin airports under their waiver? I know AA allowed within 300 miles.

It all depends on the rep you get with southwest. The rep I got switched my flight home from vegas-Houston to LAX-Houston at no cost and gave me travel credit of 150
