You're comparing Ruth's Chris to Golden Corral. May I suggest Litchfield Beach as an alternative.

Myrtle Beach is better for middle class type fun activities like putt putt, amusement park, water parks, class A baseball, cheesy outlet like malls, seafood buffet restaurants.
Also has outstanding golf courses, that are cheaper to play in summer time.

Hilton Head is much more upscale, probably with less kid type activities. Much less crowded, I would imagine.

I had family that lived in Myrtle Beach when I was growing up. We would go visit them for a week every summer. I had a blast every summer.

With that said, I'd suggest Hilton Head.

I haven't been to Myrtle Beach in years. The only reason I would go there now would be nostalgia of going there when I was little. Hilton Head is beautiful, but many of the people there suck. A lot of them think they have some money and have an attitude about it. Maybe somewhere like Edisto would be better, although it's been 20 years since I've been there, so it may have changed.

I live an hour from Myrtle Beach and have been there for vacation many times in my life but things down there have changed over the last few years. Traffic is horrible and the crime rate has gone up big time. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of things to do down there like water parks, the beach, Pelicans baseball, a couple of small amusement parks and plenty of places to go eat but like others said...it has gotten trashy down there.

If you want gonorrhea, Myrtle Beach. For just about everything else the answer is Hilton Head.

I have lived my whole life 25 minutes from Myrtle Beach. While Myrtle Beach proper may be trashy, I'd rather spend a week in neighboring Cherry Grove or Murrells Inlet than in the Yankee infested hellhole that is Hilton Head Island. Seriously, HHI is like spending a week in Ohio this time of year.

Well, you nailed it. I still like to stay at Sea Pines once every few years but it is more Yankee Doodle old farts than Naples, Fl. I kind of like to be around friendly people who seem to me having a great time in a beautiful place. Not around people who have a perma get off my lawn look.
