I have a global trip coming up for school. I can pick from 8 options. Trip is a week long and I may extend it another week:
Riga, Latvia and Vilnius, Lithuania
Shanghai, China
Medellin, Colombia and Bogota, Colombia
Chisinau, Moldova and Bucharest, Romania
New Delhi, India and Mumbai, India
Abu Dhabi, UAE and Dubai, UAE
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Bangkok, Thailand
Johannesburg, S. Africa and Cape Town, S. Africa
Which does the Travel board recommend?
We will be doing a mix of touring businesses and cultural excursions on the pre-planned trip.

This combination is light years beyond enjoyable than the other options. There are so many amazing small towns/villages, hidden beautiful beaches, and just a vast array of scenery and culture within Thailand you will literally feel like you visit a 10 different countries.

Pick the most expensive complicated one if its paid for - probs South Africa.
You can hit the cheaper Southeast Asia countries on your own later.

I have to pay for the flight there and back.

Either of these two. I've heard great things about Colombia and want to get there soon.

That's tough man. Lots of different options.
I've been to Delhi, Shanghai, and Bangkok and those 3 are all a bit different. Colombia was on my short list for my next trip but went with Peru. Africa is on deck. I'd be overwhelmed.
Very cool opportunity you have here.
Which ones pops out at you?
The "most expensive" idea isn't a terrible strategy if all else is equal.
Southeast Asia is awesome but I'd be tempted to pick the one I'm the most interested in but least likely to get to on my own. SE Asia is pretty cheap and I'll probably be back, so personally that may actually hurt it in my rankings.

SE Asia is where I am leaning. I have never been to Asia and those are cities that are different from anything I have ever experienced (or so I am told).
I want to venture somewhere that really opens my eyes to a new culture. I've been to Europe 5-6 times so I would say those are lowest on my list.

Right now, my order is looking like:
1) SE Asia
2) Colombia
3) South Africa
4) Baltics
I have a lot of Indian friends so I will go with them to India in the next few years.
I'll consider Qatar and Russia for the two upcoming World Cups so those are the only other major trips I may have on the books.
I haven't seen a ton of Eastern Europe so adding a week to see Prague, Vienna, Budapest would be very easy with the Baltics or the Romania trip.

I would go with Colombia, South Africa & Romania in that order lol. But wherever you go I'm sure the pics will be great

SE Asia is best for your since the flight there will be the cheapest and since that is all you have to pay, it suits you best. Also, it is a very beautiful part of the world. If I were to go to India, I wouldn't just go to Delhi and Mumbai. Idk if you can pick where to go but if those are your only options, I'd scratch out India.
South Africa probably next on the list.

My cousin has done some basketball recruiting trips to Lithuania/Latvia/Estonia. Said it's pretty interesting.

I did 2 similar trips during business school, and my recommendation would be to pick the location that you would least want to visit on your own.
I had the opportunity to choose Italy, Germany, South Africa, China, Dominican Republic, Chile, or India.
For my first trip, I did not do that. I chose to go to Italy, because, who doesn't want to go to Italy! It was a fantastic trip, but I think it would have been a fantastic trip with or without being on a "guided" trip.
For the next trip, I figured, at some point in my life, I would visit China, Germany, and the Dominican Republic. I didn't have a huge desire to visit India. That left Chile or South Africa.
I chose Chile. I would have never though to visit Chile as a vacation destination, so I figured this would be my only chance to go. It was fantastic, and I am planning on taking my wife and kids in the next few years.
My point is, use this as an opportunity to see something you probably wouldn't make time for in the future.
