I have a pretty hefty layover in Seattle in a couple of days. If I wanted to get out of the airport and head to the space needle, how would I go about doing that? I heard that there is a tram of some sort. Is that accurate or do we need to Uber a couple of cars from the airport?

Also, where to do a meal around the space needle would be nice. Something quick and not too fancy. Local and cheap would actually be the preferred venue.

There is a lightrail from the airport to Downtown.

Uber is easiest
Lightrail is cheapest but is about an hour each way

Let me ask my coworkers today and I'll get back to you. How long is your layover? Agree on the light rail, Uber/Lyft/taxi to the space needle. Unfortunately it's rainy this week so doubt you'd get to see much from the needle

I drove there from the Airport last year. It is a decently long ride so plan accordingly.

Downtown Seattle is infected with some of the same Antifa blight as Portland which is a shame. The area around the needle seemed nice enough.

See if you can buy a ticket in advance at a reserved time for the needle. We were never able to get in when we were in Seattle before and after an Alaskan cruise. We ended up at Chihuly Garden and Glass and WOW it was incredible. We also did the music museum close by. Sorry, don't remember the name of it.

Take the Link Light Rail from Sea-Tac to Westlake Station. Then head up to the Monorail from Westlake Center to Seattle Center. Monorail station is right by Space Needle.

Check the websites for both to calculate if you have enough time for this. Uber/Lyft way faster though, except certain commute times.

For food, I’d walk down to Pike Place Market from Westlake Station (5 to 6 blocks away), if you have the time.

How long of layover?

Basically all day. Touchdown at 0945. Takeoff at 2300. Long enough to say nothing is off limits.

I would definitely hit up Pike's Place for food options if you have time. There is one place around there that does Chowders. You can pay and get a sample pack that has like 4 ozs of 8 different chowders. It was very good.
