Hey guys,

We’re tying the knot in Cabo in September, but want to hop somewhere relatively close for the honeymoon. She loves the beach, I love the mountains. Any suggestions on where we would both enjoy based on those features?

TIA.

Costa Rica or Nicaragua should both be easy. Both have rain forests and beaches Pacific side and they're mountainous countries. Some pretty nice places to stay from what I understand and easy on the budget.

I agree. I can't really think of anywhere else that has both options unless you go further south to like Chile. After that, you're going outside the hemisphere.

Def the obvious choice, but I’ve been there too many times. We will be there for 5 days for the wedding, so I want to go elsewhere for honeymoon.

Went to Costa Rica a couple of years ago, and it was beautiful. Had some hiking trails up in the mountains, and then spent a day down on a local beach the owner of the villa we were staying at told us about. This is the site that we went through.

Plenty of activities, plenty of places to eat, felt great the whole time there. Got a little bit of rain one or two days, and you might fall right in the middle of their "rainy season."

Doesn’t St. Lucia have beaches and mountains? I’ve never been but I remember pictures.

It does. However, connecting from Cabo may be a bitch.

Goofing around a bit, suggestions beyond Costa Rica look dumb. Well over 10 hours travel time. So Costa Rica may be the answer here.

You could always hop over to Puerto Vallarta.

We had a weeklong wedding/celebration at El Mangroove. It’s an amazing place. 25 min from Liberia Airport. Would be great for relaxing honeymoon. They have an all inclusive adder if you want that as well. Totally worth it. Can relax by the pool or on the beach and hit the mountains. Local food right up the road. Cant suggest this place enough. It’s a Marriott Autograph Property as well if you’re a member.

Chile's beaches would be ice-cold in September anyway, but the skiing will still be great. I've been to both beach and mountains in Peru, but I don't necessarily see that as a great honeymoon.

How long are you thinking for the honeymoon?

Why not just stay in Cabo? What is the point of going there to get married if you are going to go somewhere else on your honeymoon?

I just don’t believe that PV is as safe as it once was.

To echo others, Costa Rica would be a great choice. They're about as "wide open" as you can get, Covid and wise. Tons to do there, to appease both of your wants.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that the answer is Maui.

You'll be on a fantastic tropical beach, and you'll also be a short drive from amazing mountain hikes where you'll be genuinely cold if you aren't wearing a jacket.

I feel that Cabo is a difficult starting point for a lot of these flight paths. Long travel days.

Really, I have been multiple times and never had an issue. I haven't been back since the pandemic. We have walked the malecon and the side streets and did not feel unsafe.
