Getting Global Entry

It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for years and just never gotten around to it. Finally filled out the application and waited for the conditional approval.
Man, getting an appointment scheduled to do your interview is a pain in the arse! I’ve been monitoring open appointments for days and when one appears at my location it’s gone in less than 30 seconds.
A lot of the earliest appointments becoming available I’ve seen aren’t until 2023.
Logged in this morning and they had appointments at my location for THIS MORNING. Immediately booked one and canceled my meetings for work.
Wish me luck in my interview baws.

Honestly good to know.
I've been thinking about signing up for years and just never got around to it.

That has been my issue for years. Always meaning to do it and never wanting to deal with the hassle. Finally bit the bullet when I found out my firm will pay for the fees.

In my experience you're good to go at this point, regardless of what you might hear.
I had to disclose an arrest and my interviewer is like, ok that'll need to go to a second stage of review but it's probably fine, it'll just be delayed so be patient.
I got the approval in the car pulling out of the parking lot. It's the same for renewal, you renew online and then they're like "we'll contact you to set up an appointment for your renewal interview." An hour later you get an email saying your renewal is complete.

I’m not really worried about the interview at all, it’s just crazy how hard it is to get an appointment!

I got Global Entry a few years ago, SE La offices were booked solid. Biloxi/Gulfport was wide open. Made a nice daytrip out of the interview there.

Used to be able to do the interview when arriving back in the states after international travel in some airports without an appointment, is that still the case?

Enrollment on arrival is still available. I tried to renew mines upon arrival from Italy earlier this year. Agent stated that it would be a 1.5 hr wait despite no one around. Needless to say, I left. Was able to get a remote appt and renewed it with a 2 minute Zoom call.

Yes, that is still the case. It is called Enrollment on Arrival (EoA).

Same here. I'd read horror stories of people who'd been accused of petty theft or something in the 1960s being turned down. My arrest was in 2007 and the guy gave me a card and said I might have to provide further documentation. Which I didn't have to do because he called the next day and said I'd been approved. Then when it was time to renew I filled out the form online and they just sent me a new card.

Just left the airport and already got the email saying my status has been updated.

I walked into an interview while I was at the airport, was quick and easy

I did mine about 4-5 years ago before the world got crazy and back when it was relatively-ish new. Had no troubles getting into an appointment. My wife waited a few years after me and had to drive to Gulfport.

We got my son global entry when he was maybe 6 months old. His Global Entry photo is a blob in a car seat.

Id love to see that TSA process.
Agent looks at 5 year old, then looks at photo of blob, then looks at 5 year old: “ok little man you’re good to go.”

I was born overseas so I have a passport from when I was an infant like my son does.
How that is allowed to be used as identification for five years really is laughable.

It took me 30 seconds to cross back into the US the last time with Global Entry and Clear.
Well

GE is the bees knees.
Funny enough we walked right into the country from Croatia last summer per usual, 30 seconds as you say. We then went back through domestic security for our flight home where the Mediterranean salt my wife bought caught us up in 15 minutes of what I could only guess were drug tests. It was painful to watch them use their little chemical dropper on each salt sample from 3 jars.

I let mine expire and have been “pending conditional approval” for about 4 months now. Can I complete it at the airport when I’m there this weekend?

This is what I did. It was great. Took like 10 mins and got approval immediately.
