I'll be attending a wedding there in November, smack dab in the middle of HWY 1 between Key Largo and Key West. Going to spend a few nights after the wedding somewhere down there. What key do ya'll suggest we stay at? The wife is not a big adventurer, we like to sight see and eat good on vactions. Also, what airport would you fly into from MSY?

Fly into FLL or MIami, whichever has a better schedule and pricing. They're not that far enough apart from each other to make a difference. Stay in Islamorada. has breweries, good dining, live music, food trucks, two breweries/tap rooms. I'd suggest renting a boat for a day (or two if you have somewhere to dock it with your rental). Take it to the sand bar and alligator point.

Islamorada is 9 minutes from the wedding location, so that would be convenient. Any suggestions on places to stay there?

How big of a group do you have? Is it just you and the wife or are you looking for a place for a bigger group?

We stayed at a VRBO in Tavernier. Really had a blast. We were diving up at Key Largo during the day.

Try Lorelei Good live music and dining on the beach. Good food too.

Also the Island Grill was great.

We took a day trip to Key West and ate at some little local restaurant. Best fish tacos I’ve ever had. Fresh hog fish he got from a local fisherman. Great little Bistro but I think it’s closed since we’ve been there. Tons of places to eat down there.

Stop by the garden of Eden bar if you go to key west. Top floor is clothing optional. And I learned pretty quickly the people that want to hang out naked, aren’t usually the people you want to see naked. Lol.

Check out Air BNB for something that fits your needs. You arent going to need deluxe accommodations and don't think about the beaches there like Miami or Ft Lauderdale...it's much different. You just want somewhere centrally located to call home base, sleep, shower, relax in the mornings and evenings, wash clothes, etc.

I would say having pool access is nice...either in a building with a public pool or a somewhere with your own private pool...depending on what you are looking for

We were just down there. Download the Gypsy app for driving down there. It will narrate as you driving providing history and sightseeing information as you drive.

A quick stop at Robbie’s to feed the tarpon was great fun

I second Lorelei in that area. Great place to hang out and enjoy the sunset.

Check out the Cheeca Lodge. As good as it gets in the Keys. Others will have more suggestions on where to eat/drink but there are plenty of options.

A few years ago we stumbled upon Sunset Inn in Islamorada on our way to Key West, we were a day ahead of schedule and needed a place for a night and were pleasantly surprised by this place, especially considering it was about half priced what other last minute hotels in the area were going for. Its an older hotel that was built back in the 50s that was just recently completely renovated, the rooms were super nice, the grounds and pool were clean and very well kept. It's also walking distance to Lorelei and Islamorada Brewery.

We did a week long trip to the Keys last summer and spent 4 days in Key West and 4 days in Islamorada and stayed at Cheeca Lodge while we were there and it was great. Had dinner at Chef Michael’s, Ziggy & Mad Dog’s and Atlantic’s Edge Restaurant(Cheeca’s in house restaurant). Kaiyo Grill & Sushi Bar gets very good reviews and stayed packed...never made it there. Had very good dinners at all three of the places we ate.
