Has anyone gone through it yet? I'm seeing reports that you need to be at the airport 3+ hours in advance b/c their system sucks.
Any first hand experience yet?

Yes I went through it several weeks ago and it was fine, although did take longer than usual.
However, I have heard the last couple of weeks post April 10 have been a total CF

I thought it wasn't set to start until Q4 2026?

It started in different places at different times. I assumed what I went through was it. I went through it on April 7. It was mandatory for every access point on April 10

Maybe we are talking about different things because ETIAS can't even be applied for yet. There are some different systems. The EES system maybe is what y'all are referring to? That is just the electronic entry/exit system.

Yes, because he referred to the new europe travel entry exit
I assumed he was confused so just ignored the ETIAS part

This is the thing where they get your biometric info one time for the system?

It was a bit confusing at first but was mostly fine.
It did take longer than usual even with a relatively small crowd. When I got to my individual passport line, there was 7 people in front of me and that took what felt like a VERY long time. I didn't time it but it was likely 30 minutes
I can't imagine what its like right now. I am sure it will get better eventually

I have an EU passport too, and the advice I've been given is never go through the American receiving line again. If you do, then you risk the system flagging you at various points that will be a pain.

Thanks. Should be fun for our trip in June.

Didn't have any issues at last month

Not ETIAS, but departed Madrid in Feb and EES was a breeze FWIW.
We went through in the evening, there was no line, and the computer/bios, etc were quick to process.
Of course, YMMV

The thing I don’t like is that they don’t stamp your passport anymore. I like the stamps as souvenirs.

I know dude. I finally have the means to get my passport stamped every year and no more.
