yeah, north of 287 is fricked, but since you take 287 to Amarillo, using the express lanes and exiting at 287 is usually very quick/easy

Ah, they must be up past 287 now. In-laws live in Keller and the whole thing is a nightmare

If you want to change it up on the drive back, take 70 across Kansas and cut back across the reservation in Oklahoma. I like that drive across 70.

If you’re going from BR with kids, maybe consider spending two nights on the road. We did it many times for ski trips; leave midday & drive to Lindale-ish, lots of decent familiar chain lodging in the area. The next day would be the long day, about 12 hrs with the goal of Raton. That way you get up in the morning to start into the mountains fresh and don’t miss the scenery driving in the dark.

Dallas traffic from 10am-3pm isn’t bad. Plan to reach Dallas within that window and you’ll be fine.

380 is a mess if you catch it at the wrong time.
