Do you use AAA or something similar?

I travel a lot so I think AAA is cheap insurance in case I need a tow in the middle of nowhere. It's paid off a few times. Except their online portal is hard to navigate. Anybody have something similar they like?

Now I have road service through State Farm.

You've had to get a tow in the middle of nowhere multiple times?
I've driven well over a million miles in my life and have never needed assistance from someone b/c my car was broken down on the side of the road.

I am amazed every time i travel between NO and BR at how many abandoned cars there are on the side of the interstate. and not old shitty cars, newer looking cars. What the hell happened that made the car undriveable to the point you left it on the side of the interstate?

I have AAA, but only because they give us discounts at Oasis (usually 2 weekend trips a summer) and have found a few park ticket savings while on other trips.

I agree the portal is hard to navigate, and once the kids get sick of going to Oasis, it's close, we will not be renewing.

Yeah two very uncomfortable days. First one was a borrowed diesel car that a full service gas station in New Jersey put gas in. Luckily we figured it out fast enough that it didn't ruin the engine but needed a tow 90 min to a VW dealer. Cost me $400 to fix. Lucky it wasn't $4000.

Second one, got stuck in a rented SUV in a snow drift in a parking lot. Even had 4wd engaged, but I think the rental car places have s***ty tires not meant for much more than dry interstate roads. Was a jobsite way out in middle of nowhere and everybody that could pull me out was long gone for the day. Came darn close to spending the night.

In both cases AAA finally got someone to me and drug me out. Also I can never forget that episode of The League where Ruxin kept having AAA tow him home for free when he got drunk. Great show.

Also check:
1. Other insurance companies
2.Credit cards especially if premium or airline.
3. Starlink or any car sat radio service you might have.
4. Extended car service agreements.

I dropped AAA when I realized I already got towing service 2 other ways.

So stupid that they still do that over there. They should have had to pay for that b/c they are morons still forcing you to fill up your car.

With AAA is easier to get service and basically one tow pays for itself. Peace of mind when traveling.

Piece of mind that you'll sit for two hours waiting on a AAA dispatched tow truck, when you could have used the Internet to search for one less than five miles away that can get to you in 20m.

That's not untrue.

We have AAA for Roadside Service.

I had to use it a couple of years ago. Gassed up and apparently there was a lot of water in their tanks and I got about a mile down the road and it just sputtered and died. Luckily, I got to a safe area off the side of the road. The way their automated service request are set up now, it's difficult to talk to a human. I did sit on the side of the road for a couple of hours waiting for a truck to come to the car. Wasn't fun. But it's still some peace of mind for me and the family overall.

AAA contracts out to local tow companies (in relation to your location). I’ve never waited longer than 20-30 minutes. There are also ways to opt out of talking to an automated service and speak to a real person.

I have the same road side service through USAA and you can get it through other companies. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with AAA it’s just super niche.

Have had it over 20 years

Have used probably 10 times over 20 years

2x in last year on wife’s car that we just got rid of. First time had to wait over 2 hrs for service. Second time they told me it would be 3 hrs.. I cancelled, hired my own. Sent AAA the receipt and about a month later they reimbursed me.

I think the company they use in South LA is absolute crap

Prior to these two… in past it was 20 min max wait
