Holy shite! there is nothing to do in this town. The main Alien attraction is about 4-5 shops selling over priced shite.

That's it. I asked a couple locals what to do, and they said nothing. Even the "UFO" shaped McDonalds is a let down. It's a regular shaped McD's with a semi UFO shaped front end over the play area.

I just found out the "Crash site" isn't even here. It's 100 miles away, closer to Alamogordo (near the AFB and White Sands).

We were at White Sands this morning. It's a really cool place (National Monument) and we are going to Carlsbad Caverns tomorrow. We hit a couple places between Alamogordo and Roswell, "Fox Cave" for one. It has a nice museum and a really cool store cut into the side of a mountain.

But, as for Roswell, do not go out of your way to visit.

And while we're on the subject, let's talk a little bit about vacation planning

Surely Roswell has at least a restaurant or two offering green chile burgers, or that awesome green chile stew sold all over NM. Big D's Downtown Dive?

That's just it, if you look up on line things to do in Roswell, it makes it seem almost like a Gatinburg with Aliens. Over 75% of the Alien attractions are out of business. Just this evening, after we couldn't find anything to do, my daughter Googled things to do in Roswell. The first thing to pop up is an "Alien Escape Room". We head over just to find it out of business. The only other hits that came up were movies and a mall.
I've been going on 4-5 hours of sleep a night, so I could use a long night sleep tonight, but when your 13 year old daughter, for the last three months, has been watching YouTube videos on Roswell and couldn't wait to get here, is super disappointed, it just tears your heart.

Like I said in the OP, don't go out of your way to visit here.

Yeah Roswell is a shithole and was severely disappointing when I went as a teenager.

When you pass through Artesia on your way to Carlsbad ride down Main Street and check out the high school football stadium, The Bulldog Bowl!! it's better then most college stadiums!! Home of 29 football state championships since 1957!

I have to be honest, I didn't know anyone considered Roswell a destination.

That this was appealing is probably the source of the problem

We drove through one time after doing Guadalupe NP backcountry then going to Carlsbad (both fantastic). We literally stopped for an afternoon, saw the stupid arse kitschy "museum" then drove on. I can understand the disappointment, but pretty much anyone could have told you that it's not worth really factoring into a trip.

My experience in Roswell was so much different than yours. Granted I have only been one time and that was back in 1947, and technically it was for work.

You know it's bad when a guy named Spock even found it disappointing.
