Seeing if I can get some guidance here with Hurricane Milton approaching mid-Florida in a few days. We are suppose to leave for Disney tomorrow morning, with 5 days in the parks Tuesday through Saturday, and returning next Sunday. DIsney has a very high percentage of rain forecasted today-Thursday, with an impending major hurricane making landfall around Tampa Wednesday evening moving directly over Orlando. DIsney parks did close for 2 days in 2002 when Hurrican Ian went through Orlando, but that looks like it was an anomaly as DIsney rarely closes.

We have 4 kids, and for the 3 younger kids (7, 5, and 3) this is their first time. My question for those that have been to DIsney during rainy or inclement weather, should we reschedule for Thanksgiving or Mardi Gras week, or do you think Orlando will be fine and they can still enjoy everything with it raining for the majority of the trip?

IMO, I'd give it til late tomorrow and make the call. If the storm is what it is predicted to be, a major hurricane, and takes the track they are predicting, I'd imagine Disney will be shut down for 3-4 days due to staffing and cleanup. And I personally wouldn't want to take my kids into the line of a Major Hurricane.

ETA: As of now, its scheduled to make landfall just west of Orlando as a Category 3 hurricane.

Also, just looked at track. Can bet your arse Disney is closed Wednesday and Thursday. It is still over Daytona Beach on Wednesday. If I was a betting man it will be closed Wednesday til Saturday.

Will be packed during Thanksgiving, so I'd shoot for Mardi Gras. If you can swing it,t he two slowest periods at the parks are the first two weeks of November and the week after thanksgiving week.

New tracker from 10 AM shows it'll be past Orlando by Thursday AM. They'll likely close the parks earlier on Wednesday, or entirely. It sped up its time to make landfall.

Will be a major hurricane going across Orlando… who knows what the fallout is and how long it will take them to inspect and certify everything is ok for reopen.

Not to mention having workers able to return Friday.

I wouldn’t go even if it was a free trip.

Unless the track shifts drastically no way the park will be open Wednesday or Thursday. Likely not Friday either they will at a minimum have to clean up a big mess and verify everything is in working order… best case scenario imo.

This is only my 3rd time going since the turn of the century. Are crowds horrible all week during Thanksgiving? We are looking at changing our reservations to check in on the Thursday before Thanksgiving, with park days Friday-Tuesday and leaving Wednesday right before Thanksgiving.

It's Disney. They will do everything they can to open the roads and get the parks ready to reopen asap.

If they do close the park for a day, they will take care of you at the on site resorts. We were there a few years ago when they closed for a day or so for a storm, they were giving free food and had characters all around. They shouldn't lose power and will do everything they can to keep you happy.

DO NOT go during Thanksgiving week. Crowds are so dense you are shoulder to shoulder with other park visitors.

Trust me. I speak from experience. After about an hour in the Magic Kingdom on day 1 of a week long vacation, I realized I had made a very expensive mistake.

If you can reschedule it will be a shitshow starting Tuesday and last through at least Friday. Orlando is in the line of the storm and does have problems with flooding. Traffic is already bad and throw in all this havoc it won't be a vacation trust me.

My guess at this point would be an early Wednesday and Thursday closure, reopening on Friday. The resorts are a safe place to ride out a storm but Id probably move it to Thanksgiving.

Yes, the parks are more crowded that week but if you plan to hit the parks early, leave by noon or so and come back hat night with efficient use of your lightening lanes I think it would offer a much better trip than losing a day and a half or more.

Fuel is already difficult to find. Gonna be worse after storm passes. Evacuation and return home is going to exhaust most supplies for at least a week.

Inconvenience, rescheduling, lost prepayments...whatever...

DON'T DRIVE INTO A DISASTER AREA FOR YOUR VACATION.

People are going to be trying to pull their lives back together and they don't need extra bodies wandering around.

It's definitely going to be high crowds but the cooler weather makes it a bit more bearable than summer crowds.

No, we postponed to check in on the Thursday before Thanksgiving and check out the Wednesday right before Thanksgiving day. Hope crowds aren’t too terrible the 1st two days there.

My wife didn’t want to wait another 5 months to bring the kids for Mardi Gras break. We’ll make the best of it in November.

My wife and I went many, many years ago in November and the weather was perfect. Hope you get the same.

We went the week after Thanksgiving a few years ago. The weather was nice and the crowds weren’t terrible.

There's a visible difference in the crowd size the three days before Thanksgiving vs the three days after for sure
