Day 18- Ski Copper Mountain

Sorry for being a day late, but the internet was surprisingly shitty in the Frisco area. Woke up to my truck covered with 2" and saw a report of 5" at Copper. I had never been to Copper before but have driven past it multiple times on the way to Vail. Parked in the Alpine lot (2nd row of cars) and made our way via bus to the central village. Met up with Duke and he showed us around the mountain after a cup of coffee.

Base area view including the halfpipe

Did a few groomers on the front off of the Rendezvous lift

Then we took the Tbar up to the top of the front side

Little cloudy to start

But the sun would make it's way out eventually.

We hit a few runs off of the Blackjack and Mountain Chief lifts before Duke had to head out. Super glad he was able to show us around, always nice to meet other posters in person

After Mountain Chief, we went to the Three Bears lift which is the most difficult lift. This is I believe the highest point on the mountain. Picture is of a run called Buffalo Stampede just off the top of the lift. Snow was super soft over here, great choice.

Trees were very fun at the bottom weaving in and out

We lapped it again, here's a view of the run to the right of the lift

To get back to the villages, you need to take the Mountain Chief lift. We opted to do the Far west and the snow was great. The cat tracks were not fun though...

Stopped in central for some lunch then went back to rendezvous and superbee for some groomer laps. Ended the day on the halfpipe.

Overall, great mountain that I'm surprised I had never been to before. Super easy to get to off of 70, didn't have that Vail/Aspen uppity vibe, and most people were friendly. Lowlights would be the lifts stopping all day. If you're a beginner, take the easy lift. Duke said they stopped the eagle lift over 300 times yesterday... That's crazy. Would recommend for beginners to experts, wide variety of terrain.

Here's a pic for proof (not my camera, I wouldn't allow these type of grainy pics for this review)

Copper might be my favorite resort in Summit County, three bears can be special on a powder day.

Three bears was great especially with the 5". Snow was soft over there, sun was peaking out too so I could see the entire backside. I'm surprised I hadn't been to copper before, but I'll be back since it had the laid back ski vibe vs the Vail/Aspens in the area.

I also passed Loveland on my way to Denver, is that any good to ski? Will post my A basin review below

Day 19- Ski A Basin

Drove from Frisco to A Basin. You pass by Keystone on the way there, I remember that being a good groomer mountain. On the drive over, check out the reading from my truck

It was fricking cold to start the day. Parked at the Early Riser lot in the third row and got in line for the Black Mountain lift. Guy I was with had his CamelBak freeze after the first run. He had to stop so I kept going . There are 3 areas at A basin- front side, Montezuma bowl, and the beaver bowl. Started with groomers on the front, great views

Went over to the Montezuma bowl and met a guy from Buffalo, ended up skiing the rest of the morning with him while my friend was at the lodge. Views from the Montezuma area

At this point the sun hit the icy stuff long enough that it was soft. Made our way over to the Beaver area and that stuff was steep.

Really enjoyed this area then went back to the front to meet up with my friend.

Overall, great day besides the very cold start. We didn't do any of the extreme hikes but I'd like to try it next time I'm back. The snow coverage is still good, think they'll be open til June? The vibes were laid back, people were doing keg stands in the parking lot when we were ready to pack up . It's also relatively close to Denver compared to some of the other mountains like Aspen or Steamboat. Would recommend

Finished up at A Basin and drove to Centennial, got a deep tissue massage. My friend got one then asked me to drop him off across the street for another one. I did then once he finished up dropped him off at the airport. I hate how far out of the way DIA is from everything

Day 20- Drive Centennial to Wichita Falls

Caught up with a friend for coffee in Centennial early morning then left for TX around 915am. Ended up driving I25 south to New Mexico, then taking 87 from Raton to 385 to Amarillo then 287 over to Wichita Falls. The drive on 25 was nice through Raton, then it started to get flat in NM

Then it got very flat in West Texas

Stopped for gas in Amarillo but didn't stay long. Was a nice drive on 287 as it's 75mph outside of those small towns that drop to 35. No cops handing out tickets today . Nice view at sunset

Ended up passing by a fire in Chillicothe, could see it way off in the distance

Made it to Wichita falls around 9pm, solid 11 hrs day including stops. I'm beat, driving the rest of the way to Ft Worth tomorrow then BR Monday

Day 21- Drive Wichita Falls to Haltom City, then drive to Little Elm, then McKinney

Doing the North Texas tour today. Woke up and my allergies have been killing me all day. Was supposed to spend the night in Haltom at a friend's but instead saw him for lunch at the Patriotic Pig in North Richland Hills. Thought it was good, but liked hard 8 better last time I was in this area

After lunch met up with my friend off 380 in Little Elm. Once done, drove on 380 over to the last minute booked hotel in McKinney. Amazing the amount of buildup they're doing on 380, so many housing developments and commercial spaces. Hotel is fine here, I'll call it early to try and catch up on sleep given the allergies

Welcome to Texas. Tree pollen has been off the charts the last week with all the trees starting to leaf out.

Stop by Billy’s in Opelousas and grab a few hot links of boudin and some seasoned cracklings.

Day 22- Drive McKinney to Baton Rouge

Left McKinney around 915am and drove down 635 to 80 to 20. There was a calf running on the side of the road off 80, looked like they were lost . Made it to Longview TX and stopped for the chopped brisket sandwich which was delicious

Kept driving and got some good views. Ended up stopping in Nachitoches to walk around. Pretty nice area, could see this being a great spot for couples for a weekend trip. Got introduced to some Louisiana culture at the gas station, I missed it tbh

Drive down 49

Drive from nachitoches back to 49

Took 71 through Bunkie, now I know where it is

Stopped in Krotz Springs for some boudin balls at Kartchners. The jalapeno and cheese may have been the best food I've ever had. Don't worry, there was a cop sitting at the bottom of the bridge

Took the old bridge and got a decent view of the city. Traffic on the new bridge, but old bridge and 110 were clear

Little bit of traffic by Acadian but nothing too bad. 12 was stopped dead but my friend lives in south BR so 10 to highland was fine. They made some crawfish etoufee and it was delicious

It's not often my home town makes an appearance on TD, much less Lapoint eye clinic.

Glad to give you a home town refresher of Bunkie

Cop was posted on that right hand side at the first sign of pavement from the bridge. They must grab food over in Kartchners given the cop was there when I was

Day 23- Baton Rouge hangout

Took a phone interview this morning at 10:30am (seems promising), then met up with my old advisor at Pennington. Once finished, met up with some friends at Top Golf. Half off Tuesdays so very reasonable for an hr and a half

Did some errands/laundry then went over to the levee lots for the baseball game

Got great seats for cheap in the gold section tonight

And the Tigers won! . Quick trip here in BR but always great to catch up with friends in the area.

Heading to bed, have a long 12 hour drive from BR to Charlotte North Carolina tomorrow
