We plan on taking a trip to Colorado Springs in the middle of May for 7 days. It’ll be my wife, 2yo, 4yo, MIL and myself.

Most activities will be for the kids, but MIL will babysit for us to do some things as well.

I’m going to rent a car, and I’m a presidents circle member at hertz so I’ll be able to get pretty much whatever vehicle I want.

Any advice, tips and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

We’re not staying in Colorado Springs. About an hour West.

Most people will shite on the springs, but I think it’s a great place.

Wolf sanctuary is worth a trip.

Obviously pikes peak and garden of the gods are good stops.

Cripple creek is a fun day spot.

Ride north to deckers for some fishing and a burger and beer at deckers corner.

If you’re willing to drive west, morning and lunch in BV with an afternoon on cottonwood lake is about as good as it gets IMO.

Eleven Mile Canyon if you are into fly fishing.
Angler's Covey has great guides.

Red Rocks for everyone. A.F. Academy isn't bad, but would likely be kind of boring to the kids.

Micro Breweries abound. I'd skip the Irish Pub downtown called Jack Quinns.

Edit: Go to Pikes Peak, I would not take the train due to options to stop along the way up. Garden of the Gods as mentioned above is a great spot to hike around. Bring some water and snacks. I can't remember if there are lots of chipmunks around, but some birdseed would make a big hit with the kids. Who doesn't like feeding chipmunks?

CS for 7 days?
Good lord. I can’t imagine. I assume you have to be there for family or something? And just looking for a few activities?

Used this place for a guided trip 20 years ago. Glad they are still around. Was a great day fishing.

Add Cave of the Winds. We also went to Seven Falls at the Broadmoor, and did the hike up the staircase to the top of the falls and had dinner ressies at the restaurant at the base of the falls. They have a fantastic zip line at the Broadmoor as well.

Your kids would love the train up to the top of Pikes Peak. My husband was glad he didn’t have to drive it and could enjoy it.

Yes to Garden of the Gods. We also did a hike or two in Cheyenne Canon park and drove on this cool unpaved trail that started there and ended up in the city. Sorry I can’t recall the name, but that unpaved road was probably the highlight of our trip!

You can kill a lot of slack time chatting with the bums, homeless and groups that look like stoned out junkies, there were piles of them all at every red light, on the street corners, in store parking lots, prettymuch everywhere we went about 18 moths ago when our family had to to there for a business conference. I’d like to go back to other parts of Colorado to see what we missed when we wasted 4 days in Colorado Sorings.

Take a day trip to Royal Gorge, rent a Jeep and do some of the Jeep trails in the area.

Check out Manitou Springs for some lunch and shopping. They also have an outdoors arcade.

Check out what’s open/restricted due to COVID, but:

1. Tour the AF Academy
2. The US Olympic Training Center
3. Spend time in the Garden of The Gods

The Cog Railroad up to Pikes Peak is not open yet...supposed to open later this year.

Start with those recs. Despite what others on here say, CS has some cool things to do and is worth spending some time there.
Look at their online visitors guide...it is very helpful.
Enjoy your trip.

There’s a park west of town with a tour (self guided) through cave dwellings . Very neat way to spend a few hours.
