Thinking about taking our summer vacation in Colorado. Have two kids, 8 and 12.
A few friends told us they like Colorado Springs but I figured I'd come here for suggestions before making final plans.

My kids throughly enjoyed the Molly Kathleen Gold Mine. It's in Cripple Creek not too far from CO Springs. Elevator going down was a little tight, but that adds to it. Cave of the Winds was nice as is their zoo. Airforce Academy is also available to tour.

Don’t know where you are going but.....
-Garden of the Gods
-Cave of the Winds
-Pike Peak
-Air Force Academy tour
-Florissant Fossil Beds
-Estes Park
-Drive Hwy 34 between Grand Lake and Estes Park (Unbelievable View) It’s cold in July.
-Black Canyon of the Gunnison
-Silverton/Durango Railway
-Trimble Hot Springs in Durango
-Dinosaur National Monument
-Royal Gorge Bridge around Canyon City
-Great Sand Dunes
-White Water Rafting the Arkansas River

If I think of more I will add. I spent 6 weeks all around Colorado and use to ski at Keystone. A lot of the resorts offer summer things such as hiking, mountain biking, etc. Just look them up.

personally, I think there's better places than Co Springs, but I hear the zoo their is awesome if you stay in or near Co springs.

Rocky Mountain NP is awesome for hiking and sightseeing, Estes Park is the closest town I believe.

Definitely should do some whitewater rafting, my kids are similar ages and love it. If you find a guide/rafting service that's great w/ families that's a plus.

I was very close to pulling the trigger on Co. Springs this year for our summer vacation. We have 2 kids 7 & 8 and there seems like a ton to do.

Some of the things I had looked into:

White Water Rafting - Canon City
Garden of the Gods
Pikes Peak
Royal Gorge Train
Various Hikes nearby

Colorado Springs

Why? It isn't a bad place but there is so many better places here.

Grand Lake and check out the park, lake, Estes Park, Granby and shoot over to Steamboat for a day. You can spend a week easy here and the kids wont get bored.

Or travel around staying a night in a few different places. We have a ton to do here so you'll need to figure that part out on your own.

Going to Colorado to stay in Colorado Springs is like endeavoring to read a book without looking at the black ink.

CO Springs is as dull as dull can get.
Why go to Colorado except for the mountains?
Go to Steamboat, Estes Park, Silverthorne, Aspen.

We went in July a couple years ago. Spent couple days In Dillon/Frisco area. Breckinridge only about 20 minute drive from there and they have a park in one of the ski slopes that has lots of stuff for kids to do. Then drove up to Estes Park through Grand Lake, pretty drive, stayed 4 days in EP then drove home. Kids never got bored
