Looking for some advice on things to do, places to stay, etc. Looking at late July, early August timeframe.

St. Lucia has now made its way into the conversation, so if anyone would like to offer some suggestions there, then it would be most appreciated.

Okay, kill St, Lucia - it's out...on to Costa Rica!!!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Bunch of recent threads on this, but I really enjoyed staying in Teton Village area. Booked an AirBnB and was less than a mile from park entrance (that route had an insane amount of wildlife on it as well). Easy to walk over to a few dinner/shopping options in the evening. Definitely plan to pack meals for the parks. Not many options for food, but an infinite amount of scenic places to stop and eat.

I imagine Yellowstone will be a total clusterfrick this year. I hear it's crowded in a normal year so planning better be tight to avoid issues. Some other threads suggest rotating hotels around the park to lessen traffic issues.

Is Yellowstone going to operate at its capacity unlike last year?

Fly into SLC. Drive to Logan Utah and spend night. Drive to Jackson. Spend 2 nights with a day trip to the Tetons. Drive to West Yellowstone. Spend 3 nights in the park. Drive thru IDAHO Falls and spend night in Pocatello on way back to SLC.

Flew into SLC and drove straight to JH. It's only ~4hrs and a very enjoyable drive.

Thanks, all. Appreciate the info!

As the wife and I were going to sleep last night, she then hits me with "Well, what about St. Lucia?".

So, let's double-down on this thread!

Anyone have any suggestions for St. Lucia? It would be the same timeframe...

If you stay on the north side of the island, pony up for the helicopter ride. The 90 minute mountain pass ride made my wife almost barf. We stayed in a resort just outside of Castries and felt very safe riding bikes around the city.

The hike up Gros Piton is a mother fricker. It gains like 3000' elevation over like a 2 mile trail. Beautiful view though.

And I hope you like cats. That island is infested with cats.

This is our plan. Tickets to SLC are significantly cheaper than flying direct.

Thanks for the info.

Would you bring an 11-year old? You probably weren't thinking about it, but do you remember there being things that an 11-year old girl would like?

We are okay with cats...lol

I've considered doing something similar (flying in to NOT Jackson Hole airport) but flying in to Idaho Falls airport. Seems to be considerably cheaper and I would imagine the rental car would be much cheaper to rent here than in Jackson Hole as well. Idaho Falls looks to be a little less than a 2 hr drive rather than almost 5 from SLC. Any thoughts or anyone done this?

I'm planning a Jackson Hole, Tetons, Yellowstone trip for 2022 but I've only recently began looking everything up.

Can't really comment as we had no kids at the time and stayed at an adults only resort. Castries is a port town though so I think they get a lot of cruise ships which means excursions and activities for kids.

Nice, looking forward to it.

My tentative plan is to fly in to Idaho falls and get a rental and drive to Jackson Hole. Not sure where yet but stay in/around Jackson Hole/Teton Village for 2 nights and do the Tetons and JHole. Then drive up to Yellowstone and stay there 3 nights, hopefully booking 3 different hotels around the park to limit the driving/backtracking.

We'll see, a lot more planning to do I basicially only have a rough idea of the trip so far.

But cruises are operating right now, are they?

Yeah...we talked with a friend that plans trips (do they call these people travel agents still?) on the side and it seems like St. Lucia might be out, and Costa Rica in, as they seem to not give two-fricks about COVID.

There's so much to see and do, so really depends on what you want out of it. Really enjoyed Quepos/Manuel Antonio for fishing/relaxing and the park itself is awesome. Arenal is really cool (Arenal Observatory lodge has amazing views of the volcano from your bed and everywhere else). Jaco is a shite hole, for the most part, but a good jumping off point for some things.
We plan to go back soon and just stay in Manual Antonio the whole time and go slow.

Depends. We love SLC. So we are going there and spending a couple of days.
