Best way to see Alaska

I have been twice, both times on cruises starting in Vancouver and ending in Seward. One time we added a land trip by train to the Denali Park. Another time we went up a week early and divided our time between Victoria and Vancouver. Loved both trips.

Depends on your time constraints and pre-planning. I've done a week cruise from Vancouver to Seward, then rented a car for a week. Did the Kenai Fjords cruise and then drove to Anchorage, Wasilla, Denali, and Fairbanks. Flew back from Fairbanks.

The week drive was enough time for what we saw, but if I had more time I would have gone to Homer and maybe Kodiak Island. There's always more to see if you have time. The cruise is a good way to see the inside passage, but if you pre-plan you can book space on Alaskan Marine Highway Ferry and build your own inside passage cruise, see what interests you and stay for as long as you would like at each stop.

I am currently in the middle of this type of trip (flew to Seattle, staying a few nights, fly up to Anchorage tomorrow) and like how I planned it out. Gives you time to get accustomed to Pacific time then Alaska time is only an hr behind. Renting a car in Anchorage

I’m not a cruise person, but wife (no pics) and I took an Alaskan cruise out of Seattle this year. It’s a great way to see the State. Everywhere is so remote that it lets you see different places without having to drive or take multiple flights.

Not saying it’s the best way, just telling you about my experience. It’s a beautiful and interesting place. I’d highly recommend it.

Cruise experience varies greatly. The larger the ship, the less you experience the environment, and the more extra fees you might encounter. Small ships like those used by NatGeo/Lindberg are far more nature oriented and more expensive...but with all costs included. Big ships are hotel like. Small ones can be Spartan and not accessible to mobility-limited people.

Denali Star train ride between Anchorage and Fairbanks is great.

Yeah, to do it right would take months.

You could spend a week each on the different regions of the state, easily.
