I've been to NOLA several times, with mixed reviews. I have never been to Baton Rouge. If someone were to spend a weekend there (not in summer) what would be some cool touristy things to do?

Cajun/Creole food and music?
I heard about some Indian Mounds on LSU campus?
I've heard the LSU campus itself is pretty cool/scenic and worth a stroll.

What other sort of touristy stuff is a must-do?

Any cool plantation tours?

Note- I posted this here and not OT Lounge specifically to get some legitimate responses.

Baton Rouge has a casino on the Mississippi River if you're into that kind of activity.

Go to the state capitol and see where Huey Long was shot, and then go up to the observation tower on the 27th floor. This is the highest state capitol in the nation.

Also downtown, you can see the beautiful Old State Capitol. Capitol Park Museum is worth a couple of hours. The the USS Kidd, the World War II destroyer, is currently out for repairs, but it will be docked along the river again in the spring.

The capitol building is under renovation now and surrounded by scaffolding and tarps. Is the observation deck even open? It does normally have a nice view of BR.

Grab a meal at Roberto’s
Lauberge
Go to top of capitol but check because they have been working on it
Capitol park museum is cool
USS Kidd is gone until spring
Check out the river modeling museum - it has a scale map and model of the miss river - it’s pretty cool

Plantation check out Rosedown in st francsiville or houmas house has it decorated for Xmas
If you want a plantation close to downtown go to magnolia mound

The only excursion of my life outside of New Orleans took me through the vortex to the whirlpool of despair: Baton Rouge.

Not bad for a redneck who likely thinks Tuscaloosa is scenic and has good food.

Tell me you’ve never read “A Confederacy of Dunces” without telling me you’ve never read it.
