Dubai to Dallas (and back) this summer to officially lock in Silver status on Emirates. Business class lounge, pre boarding (even before famlies), quicker check in, more baggage weight- totally worth it.

Holler if you see any from iah for UA. I'm going to be short on gold this year because I wasted 14 segments flying AA to DFW. United was 3x the cost and couldn't justify it.

You must have just hit the spend threshold. You get a 10k mqm bonus for kitting 25k in spending

Reading through this thread makes me feel like a poor Amish schmuck. For someone who flies 4 times a year across the US is this a topic I should even be concerned with?

BACON - lets do a MR to SIN

I will fall short of Diamond this year without a serious MR of 20k MQM

I've been tempted to do a mileage run to asia, but thats a looong way of traveling for two days straight. I'll have to see how close i am to platinum on American near the end of the year

Done a few over the past couple years. Delta WAS-MSP-FLL and back was always around $200 on an off peak weekday. You burn the whole day but its certainly worth it, especially to get into the 50K or higher tier. That is where airlines truly begin to differentiate their elite programs (really 75K tier now). It wont be long before Delta drops Gold from SkyTeam Elite.

Exec Platinum over Platinum is worth it just because of the complementary systemwide upgrades. I think that is the most stark contrast between any of the major elite tiers.

Rather just pay for the access to the next level.

Did it for Exec Platinum once. So damn worth it

If they do that, I'm dropping the DL Amex and going Cap1 Venture or Barclay World Card. Or just standard AMEX Plat.

Golfer,

Switch over to Plat Amex and keep the highest card for your preferred airline.

Assuming you do the required spends, worth it on multiple levels.

I feel like this should be on the stickied thread on the money board

I thought Delta was based on how much you paid for the ticket, not the mileage accrued.

You still earn MQMs based on miles flown with DL. You do have to hit minimum airplane ticket spends to qualify for each status tier but they are waived if you have a DL credit card and reach a certain spend.

With that said, the days of mileage runs simply aren't worth it to me. These airlines have butchered their programs so much that the rewards just aren't there. I would only consider a mileage run if I was about to lose out on top tier status and even then it would have to really be a good deal.

Its the rumor floating around, and I'm with you. Amex Plat gives access to airline clubs, correct? The only thing keeping me with an airline credit card at that point would be the free bags for when I take the family on a trip. It adds up.

Hell if it weren't for work travel giving me status, I'd consider Spirit or Frontier. I have no problems with those guys. Especially if they get their operational reliability improvements implemented.

AA changed their policy on how many award miles you get for a flight. If you're platinum, it's something like 5 miles per dollar spent, gold 4 miles, etc. You still need to earn the elite qualifying miles or segments to get EXP, Plat, Gold each year.

On another note, just booked a mileage run in May to Orlando. Should be fun on a 777 from DFW-MIA, let's hope the comp upgrades clear for 3 of the other segments
