We have rented condos at both Snow Mountain Resort in Jackson and Whitefish Mountain Resort in Whitefish in the summer/offseason for pretty cheap. For me it worked out about the same as hotel (because I would need two rooms) but we got so much more value because we had a kitchen, real bedroom, multiple bathrooms etc.. plus great views and use of the amenity at the resort. It both cases there was hardly any one there in the summer whereas right now they are packed for skiers.

There is just not a good way to see Yellowstone with out lots of drive time...but it is worth it. 2 days minimum to drive most of the park and lodging in the park is rare and $$$

Yes the east side of Glacier was closed last year meaning I will have to go back. However, I am not sure there is a prettier drive than Going to the Sun Road in any park so try to wait till the Logan's Pass opens up and you get this...

An Airbnb might be an option for Jackson Hole and not as costly as a hotel.

There's no cheap options in that area anymore. A Days Inn type of hotel in the Yellowstone area outside of the park is usually $220-250/ night.

Teton County no longer allows Vacation Rentals outside of the "resort areas" which I believe are next to the two ski resorts. You used to be able to get a vacation rental all up and down the valley, no longer the case anymore legally that I know of. But I'm not 100% in the loop, I just know they changed it recently.

Make sure to try to hike the Highline Trail to the Grinnell Glacier Overlook. It's not *too* long of a trail, and the views are just stunning. Those are some of the best views in any national park.

This was the absolute best part of my entire trip to Glacier. We went the day after it snowed and got to hike it covered in snow, which was absolutely amazing, especially for a south Louisiana boy who can count the amount of times I've seen snow on one hand.

OP, I have a couple Glacier suggestions:
-Whitefish was an awesome little town, highly recommend checking it out, even if only for a night or two. We stayed at the Firebrand which is a nice little place with cool views in the downtown.
-Highly recommend Avalanche Lake, but you have to get there very early. May have to park a mile or so away, but worth it.
-We got an Airbnb for the majority of our trip right outside of Kalispell. They had a bunch of options, we wanted one with a view so it was a little more remote, but not overly pricey.

Going for 9 days late May/early June.

- Flying into Spokane
- Staying couple nights in Coeur D’Alene, ID to check out that area.
- Head to Whitefish, MT to see Glacier for 3 nights (Staying at Firebrand)
- Eventually meander down to Bozeman, MT for 3 days. Will do a day trip or 2 to Yellowstone
- Fly home from Billings

Any tips appreciated.

Gunsight Saloon is a must in Columbia Falls, killer food and great atomosphere. Also Tupelo Grille and Abruzzo Italian Kitchen in downtown Whitefish. All 3 are owned by a guy from South Louisiana.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but this would probably be helpful for OP as well. I know a lot of the East Side of Glacier was closed for Covid reasons last year and see they still show park entrances closed on that side of the park (aside from seasonal closures). Can you still get to most of that side of the park from the West entrance, but simply cannot go in/out from the East? OR is it basically shut off and you can only access trails/views/etc on the West side of the park?

I believe that the entire park east of the Continental Divide (aka Logan Pass, the midway point of Going to the Sun Road and the marker of the east/west sides of the park) is closed and was closed all summer.

LINK

"Additionally most areas within the park, east of the Continental Divide, remain closed to all access due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, just outside the park. Non-essential travel on roads within the Blackfeet Indian Reservation is prohibited."

Going to the Sun road may still be closed in mid June. That's about the time we went several years ago. It was a complete bitch going around the park.....with tough driving (unless you are used to driving on a cliff with no railing).

Push trip to July if at all possible. Glaicer is one of the nicest National Parks I've been to. The scenery is incredible.

Yeah it was maybe a mile or so past Logan Pass open when we went (late September). Nothing on the east side was open.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. Much appreciated. Wish I could push it to July but hopefully June won't be too bad.

I'm very jealous that you live up there. Wife and I are looking into a big move once my stepsons are out of the house. We are looking into idaho quite a bit.

Get a rental with decent road clearance and make the drive to Kintla and Bowman lake worth the trip. (Bring insect repellent) (bear spray?) make sure you plan a visit to Polebridge for some munchies, and caffeine. Raft trips on Flathead are special too.So much to do a week at Glacier will leave you thinking you missed a lot and barely scratch the surface.

Was actually planning on doing this. Are they pretty tame or do they have some intense class 3/4s?

Do you know if the hidden lake trail was open at that time? It's right there in that area and on I was looking forward to doing with my 7yo.

It was. We didn’t have time to fit it in, but it was open.

Hidden Lake is awesome. Even better if you walk the extra mile down to the lake!

I second this.

The East entrance crosses Indian land, the Indians used covid as an excuse to shut down access.

That is my plan, with fishing gear in tow.
