As of today, I'm going to end the year at 49,717 MQMs...putting me less than one segment from Gold Medallion.

My initial thought is to do a quick mileage run or add a segment to my last work trip...but I'm also considering rolling over 24,717 MQM's and sucking it up as a silver for 4-6 months to obtain Gold for the remainder of 2019 and all of 2020.

Thoughts? I've been in this situation once before but it was between Gold and Platinum and it was a no-brainer to make the mileage run to hit Plat...but I seem to be debating this one longer than normal.

I'm in the same situation thanks to their Gold medallion changes this year.

Don't they let you buy them if you're close? I'm almost diamond and they sent me an email with the option to buy to make status.

Cheapest MSY-ATL I see is $206 on the 27th or $292 BTR-ATL on the 24th. BTR isn't bad going out at 12pm, back by 4pm.

Silver isn't bad at all and if you'll hit the threshold with the rollover I'd probably do that. Lower on the totem pole for upgrades but you can still get exit rows or 21A/F on the 739

Yeah...but they want an insane amount. Mileage run would be cheaper.

I actually have one more work trip (to ATL of all places) that I haven't booked yet and I can add a segment to CHA, CSG, or AGS on the outbound that would allow me to hit 50k.

The 283 short is under the assumption I just make the direct to/from ATL.

I don't think I value the boost to gold for a 4 month period enough for the time/$200 it would take for one mileage run. And as you said with the rollover miles you would get gold for an additional year once you hit it next year.

YMMV tho

Do you have a friend in Houston you want to visit? Could just take a morning flight, hang out, and leave that evening.

Delta...not United.

And I actually won't have to do a true mileage run anyways. I have a trip next week that would normally be BTR-ATL-BTR. But I could do BTR-ATL-CHA on the outbound and ATL-BTR on the return and get the MQM's needed to reach Gold.

The question more lies in, suck it up as a silver for 4-6 months and have Gold through 2020. Or add the extra segment to make sure I have Gold for all of 2019.

I actually hit Delta gold today.

Is it worth it? Also, I live in Europe, so I anticipate I won’t be able to take full advantage.

From what I understand (I'm just a lowly Delta Silver) you don't get a ton of benefits in terms of upgrades on international flights. At least that's what happened to me when I was flying to London.

Talk to your corporate travel team

My travel director has a pool of miles and could bump you (this is with United)

The biggest benefit from gold to silver are the free same day changes. Plus the bump in miles earned per flight.

Gold is nice if you need that flexibility for same day changes, thats one thing I do miss. Upgrade wise me and a friend are 16 and 17/17 for buf-dtw today and 13,14 of 18 on dtw-den. Dont think gold wouldve helped upgrade chances today

Correct on the upgrades. I rarely get bumped to First anymore...mainly just to Comfort+

I guess the bigger question is are you okay with exit row seats in case you don't get the C+ upgrades? Only difference is the snack basket and alcohol from what I can tell

I'm one international flight away from United 1K...tough with the holidays after an insane travel year, but seriously considering it.
