re: 283 MQM short of Delta Gold Medallion - Mileage Run or Rollover?

I just received silver status. I have a trip to Paris coming up in March, haven’t bought tickets yet. Can I leverage this status for any sort of discounts or ungraded?

Lol no. Silver is largely meaningless.

That’s what I gathered. I’ll hope for an extra eye mask.

Barely worth anything
I’m silver and about 750 short of being silver this year. I’m not going to bother.
I don’t even get priority boarding with silver. Upgrades are nonexistent.
I fly from Atlanta though. Even Gold in Atlanta is worthless for upgrades.

Do you have a delta Amex card?

Yes. 30k of these 49k MQM's are from my MQM bonus(es).

Ok so honestly my sense is you don’t fly enough for it to be worth spending your own cash to get to gold. My favorite gold perk was free flight changes but my guess is your company may eat that cost and it is only $50. I say roll them over.
FYI- if you need a reserve card referral let me know

I split my time with SW this year. Made A-List with them. Would have had GM had I kept 100% of my travel on DL.
And I wouldn’t be paying for the mileage run. I’d just book BTR-ATL-CHA for my trip next week and drive down to my client on the NW side of ATL. Then just fly ATL-BTR on the return. Fare is actually cheaper.

It does make me (sad) laugh that silver basically doesn’t get you anything. Outside of bonus miles from a card, getting to silver is still flying a decent amount. Should be worth something.

pardon my ignorance on the subject -- but once you get to Silver do you stay there moving forward? or do you have to meet the requirements again in 2019 for 2020?

JW you have to requalify for status every year. If Golfer hits gold he will have it until 1/31/2020. Now if you hit lifetime million miles it is worth a permanent status, albeit low end. For example next year I will hit 1MM on delta and all that gets me is lifetime silver. I have been a diamond for 5 years so I am spoiled with my status. But to retain it I have to take over 140 flights or get 125k MQMs + $15k spend with delta. That said the higher the status the exponentially greater the benefits.

thanks for the info ...

Along these lines, does Gold status with American mean anything or is it similar to the silver on Delta? I'm there with dollars but not miles, will be one segment short and if it's worth something I may do it but I'm skeptical that it's worth the trouble.

Basically AA gold is similar to DL silver. However my history has said the upgrades have been a touch easier to use on the 500 mile or less trips. Longer requires certificates. What you can do is get gold then do a status match with another airline.
How often do you travel (I presume 29 flight segments this year) but is that going to change next year?

Will probably stay about the same, maybe a couple more or a couple less.

Honestly if you get it on segments then you likely don’t get rollover points. If you get a credit card and can build up a balance that may be an option.
