Thank you General Hog. Budget is not an issue and I typically like the "Buy Once Cry Once" approach as opposed to buying and then upgrading later. I'd like to make these trips once or twice yearly, so I want to invest in the good stuff from jump street. Will look into Skida and Kinco

In that case, definitely invest in nice goggles with interchangeable lenses. If you’re into smaller, local brands, Glade a small company in Colorado that makes good helmets/goggles.

For bibs/jacket check out:
Flylow - local Denver brand and its bomb proof gear. Incredible quality

Stio - top end stuff & well made

Arcteryx - high end quality gear

Montec has been around for about 5 years and makes pretty decent quality at a legit price point. You can buy the entire kit from them easily. It’s mainly e commerce so they have good prices

Beautiful, thank you. Arcteryx is my go-to cold weather gear so I'll definitely be inclined to get some more stuff from them.

Glade definitely seems like the best value for goggles. They're very well priced.

Checking out Flylow and Stio now

When I've had a smaller group in the past, I've just got a condo via VRBO or airbnb at Mount Crested Butte and it's worked out well. They're all pretty similar.

With a bigger group, we rented a nice house also at the mountain.

I'm partial to not relying on a bus or shuttle to go skiing though. The lifts are the only lines and logistics that I want to have to worry about between waking up and skiing.

For gear, I would recommend getting an Arcteryx or Helly Hansen shell jacket and shell bib pants. Then get base and mid layers to give you versatility to adapt to the temperature. Make sure you don't plan to wear anything cotton.

I'll wear under armor cold gear as my base layers and then polyester pajama pants if I need another layer for my legs (no one should really see you with your bibs off so style doesn't really matter for the leg layers). I wear Spyder for my mid upper layer. Their stuff is solid and warm. They run pretty good deals on clearance every so often too.

Oakley flight decks are another goggle option in addition to the smith chromapops. I would look at the tint charts and start with something made for medium lighting (I think my everyday lenses are jade).

For helmets, I've always went with Marker and have enjoyed their stuff.

Over $1000 worth of jacket/pants plus $500 worth of goggles/helmet then add in gloves and base layers, and he will be in $2000 worth of gear in rental boots/skis while taking beginner lessons......

If he's got it like that then fly into Aspen and ski Snowmass, no need to hang around the poors at CB or the Boat.

Definitely, which is why we initially recommended cheaper gear.

Always interesting to see the folks who can barely get down the mountain in full blown Arcteryx head to toe.

That depends on if you want to have fun for yourself or not. We just started my almost 5 year old, and he is having a blast and doing great at it. But My wife and I don't get many runs in. Just hanging with him on the bunny slopes.

I'd be fine with that, I'm no skiing maverick myself anyway

Biggest thing for gloves is deciding whether you want to go over jacket cuff or under; over seems easier for me; mittens are generally warmer than 5 finger too… Hestra makes nice resort options for all.

What are you guys wearing for waterproof snow boots? Wife bought me some snow boots but I would likely only ever wear them on ski trips. Thinking about returning them and getting something more versatile. Wanting something that I can play in the snow/tubing, walk around ski towns and wear back in Louisiana on chilly rainy days.

I got a pair of Columbia waterproof hiking boots. Made it through two ski trips with no problems, and I'll wear them in NOLA for camping trips. Ran true to size, probably got them on sale.

I'll be skiing Aspen/Snowmass for the first time in March. I'll be rocking my 20 year old Columbia jacket and my $40 Arctix snow pants.

At the gate for my flight from AMS > INN now, excitement mounting, it looks like I might just luck out ok enough for conditions.

There’s been some light to medium dumps this week on a decent base layer, temps are below freezing for now with Monday and Tuesday forecasted to be chilly but properly bluebird days.

Some sources suggest a light snowfall could come Wednesday but after that temps will rise to low mid 40s and put a damper on things

Question for the guys on here that ski a good bit. Decided on doing a quick 5 day trip first week of March and we are flexible on location as long as it’s reasonably easy to get to from Houston since we are only spending five days, including travel days.

We’ve pretty much all done the CO and UT resorts many times over so looking for something different. If you were choosing, first week of March, would you pick Big Sky, Jackson Hole, or Heavenly? Any others we should consider?

About our group - 3 couples, no kids, guys are all very good skiers.
