Great pics, spent 5 days in Taos last year & it was one of my favorite mountains. Our departure day it dropped a sneaky foot & we high tailed it there right before the road closed & got a few hours in before we had to head to Albuquerque - think about what I missed out on that day every once in a while, especially as we’re still bone dry in Tahoe.

Did you do any of the hike to terrain east off of Lift 2? Those runs were great as well, would be amazing with decent snow.

Just got back from a 4 day trip to Steamboat. Stayed at a reasonably priced hotel couple hundred feet from the Gondola which I’d recommend.

Snow was nice enough. Night skied Saturday after we got in. Got in a half+ day in Sunday before the Super Bowl. Think it had snowed a little bit the few days before as runs were by far the best while we there, especially tree runs. Third day checked out the backside & the chutes which had decent snow but ton of rocks. Today got a few runs in before leaving and the moguls weren’t in great shape, decent amount more rocks, & even areas that were straight grass at this point. Of course they’re getting 6-10 inches the day after I leave.

All in all just mostly did a shite ton of moguls with some decent tree runs in between. Town of Steamboat reminds of Park City, would love
To go back with a group.

Group skiing gives me panic attacks.

Every time I go skiing all I see are groups arguing on where to go, or standing at the entrance to a lift queue trying to flag down one of their group who has not made it to where they are yet. "DAVE!!!! DAVE!!!! WE'RE OVER HERE!!! DAVE!!! I'M WAVING MY POLE WILDLY TO GET YOUR ATTENTION EVEN THOUGH IM ON THE BRINK OF WHACKING OTHERS IN THE FACE!! DAVE!!!" And Dave does not hear or see them.

I was getting off Born Free Express at Vail and there was a family of about 8 and the parents and a couple of the teenagers were yelling at another teen who was out in front of them... "SLOW DOWN!!! YOU DONT KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING!!!" "I do know where I'm going!!!" "NO YOU DONT!" Just seems like a total nightmare.

I could never be on the same page as a group. I could see myself skiing with one, maybe two people, but a group? No way. They would all have to be on my level, and ski the way I want to - first chair to last chair, on my ability level, no breaks.

I get more vertical feet in one day than many get on entire trips because they do 3 runs, then go take an hour to eat on the mountain, then do a couple more runs, then take an hour long break.

Jealous you got a powder day in. Unfortunately I didn't do the hiking terrain off of 2. I talked with a ski school guy on a lift and he was suggesting those areas but thanks to COVID I was avoiding any hikes. The snow looked good off Highline and West Basin

That sounds fine for solo days or you and a friend on your level. Large groups are a bit annoying however sometimes its more about the time spent together than trying to get in the most efficient ski day.

I enjoy skiing with friends, and will have a slower paced day to enjoy it with them. 45 min lunch with a drink or two doesn't kill me. Hell I've given up entire ski days to help teach a friend and build their skills.

If I have a day with just me or the SO, then we're mapping it out and getting in the most terrain. We still stop for a drink though... we aren't trying out for the Winter Olympics over here.

You would get along with my buddies. I can hang with them for a bit but usually split up later. I like to take breaks and sample the bloody marys on the mountain bars.

Steamboat appears to have gotten at least a foot since 5am! Another nice storm possible for next week and mardi gras should be pretty good.

Grand Targhee was the next stop on my ski road trip. This place is one to put on your bucket list. Snowed 5-6 inches overnight, skied right onto every lift. I lapped the glades off Powder Cache for most of the day...

Targhee has tremendous tree skiing, right up there with anywhere I have skied. Sad to only have one day here, the drive from Big Sky was very sceneic thru Yellowstone into Idaho with great views of the Tetons on the way to Driggs, Idaho. I was told the mountain has great views as well but it was socked in with the snow, not that I was complaining with the fresh powder.

After skiing Targhee I made my way to Jackson, a short drive through a kind of sketchy mountain pass. It snowed lightly for most of today which softened up the snow on the mountain. Jackson Hole might be the steepest mountain I have skied, a number of the blues would be blacks at places like Vail or Copper. It is a beautiful mountain...

The light snow kind of made for a dust on crust, my legs were beat up after Targhee so I skied mostly the double blue runs but I did go up the Tram to hit Rendezvous Bowl. It actually isn't that tough to get down, mostly soft moguls.

I have a few more days at Jackson, Kings and Queens of Corbet's is going on tomorrow which I will check out.

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I had to cancel my 5-day solo PC trip. So my riding for the season is done. I’m devastated. 3 days was not nearly enough. Until next year gents!

Yeah I am not hating on those who take breaks, eat on the mountain, etc. but its not for me. With as much as a season pass costs and ski trips in general cost, and the fact I only go 2 or 3 times a year, I want to be skiing during the time the lifts are open. I can eat/drink/rest afterward. Come summertime I don't want to be thinking to myself "Man I wish I skied more instead of rested"

I cancelled my trip to Tahoe in March as well. Ski trips are expensive and I figured doing 3 in one year was one too many, which is why I did 5 days last week in Colorado as opposed to my usual 4. It was a lot more affordable to go on a ski trip when I lived in Las Vegas since I could drive to Tahoe, SLC, and Vail in 7 hours or less instead of having to fly and rent a car.

Having done both PC and Tahoe I'd much rather ski at Tahoe. Park City was average outside of the 9990 chair. Snowbasin could have been cool if anything was open.

I'm with you on this. I have been to trips with large groups of people all staying in the same rental house. I tend to ski with my friend who is the same level as I am, and we hit it hard all day long. Stop for a beer/burger at lunch, but then it is back at it.

Trips are expensive so I want to maximize my time on the mountain.

People view skiing/riding differently. For most people it’s an activity like tubing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, or apres. For others it’s their rush and nothing compares. I’m certainly in the “rush” segment but trying to balance it with more “happy to experience this”.

It’s not the size of the group that’s the problem, it’s the number of agendas and the people who get pissy when you deviate from theirs.

I’m in the “rush” camp. Mostly because I live in south Louisiana and I’m lucky to go more than 5 days a year. And for me, snowboarding is the most amazing thing I’ve ever done. Nothing compares to it for me on a personal hobby/freedom level. But when I go with my 8 year old son, I don’t have any issues slowing down because I’m experiencing that with him even though he can’t keep up with me yet. As he progresses and gets better, I can only imagine how much better riding will become for me as he and I make trips together throughout the years.

The number of groups I see arguing every day I am on the mountain about where to go next or what to do next makes me want nothing to do with it.

Again my favorites are the groups trying to shout the name of one of their party members and get their attention.

I'm the same exact way. Skiing does not compare to anything else that I do for fun. I usually go every year with a big group that always takes breaks but me and a buddy do our own thing and ski all day while taking minimal breaks and meet up with them at the end of the day. This past trip in December that we went on, my friend and I tripled everyone else's vertical feet at the end.

Honestly Solo days are my favorite. No waiting, no decisions between you and other people. I ski about 75% of days Solo because of this. The only time I really like skiing in groups is if either everyone is on the same level, or better than me, with more knowledge of the mountain. If they’re better than me, and know the mountain more, I have a lot of fun because I get better at skiing, and learn the good spots. It sucks if you have a group of amateurs who don’t know shite about the mountain or what they’re doing, and you have to follow them based off what they feel like doing.
