What about a flight into Seattle and a weekend at Crystal? Would that be too much to do in a weekend ?
Posted on 3/9/21 at 9:10 am to jkylejohnson
2 hours from Seattle to crystal, I typically do day trips there with no issues. The drive isn't bad, lift lines can be 10-15 min at worst case scenarios. Lot of blue and black runs, snow has been pretty good this year. Starting to warm up slowly around here

Thanks cuse. Thought about staying in Enumclaw to break the drive up. Couple decent hotels there for around 70 a night.

Enumclaw is a small town, I haven't explored it yet on my way back from skiing but the 'downtown' few blocks look nice with a few bars and restaurants. If you want to spend a bit more, you can try and find a spot closer to the mountain but know it is much more isolated out there

This storm coming through CO this week is crazy. It should be a nice refresh for most mountains but WP, Eldora, and Denver are expected to get multiple feet. Eldora currently projected at 29” through Saturday and the storm will still be strong on Sunday. The high estimate for Denver is 60”
Storm looking solid for WP as well. Of course I would plan a trip to the PNW and Colorado gets dumped on.

I think we're gonna take your advice and shoot for A Basin... Flights in Denver are perfect on times and cheapest. What's the skiing like there? I'm a blue and green run kinda guy as wife and I are new skiers. Is there enough intermediate terrain to keep us busy for 2 days ?

No. You will be bored within a day.
Note a lot of the blues at A Basin would be black at Breck or Keystone

After our earlier conversations I think Crystal may be a good way to go. Forest queen is a lift designed entirely for you with strictly greens and easy blues. You can take the Rainier express lift to go up top and see Mt. Rainier then take a nice blue all the way down

What about loveland? Would it be do-able for a day at each. We'll have 2 full days to ski.
Cuse- I was very interested in crystal but we just couldn't work it out for the weekend we needed with flight times. I'm gonna give it a shot next ski season.. whistler is where I'm really eyeballing for next year. Looks awesome

Loveland + A Basin would be a good plan if yall were more advanced skiers I think. A Basin doesn't have much for beginner/intermediate. Something like 70% of the runs there are blacks, which are already harder than the blacks at other resorts. Loveland is honestly a great place and should keep yall more than busy for 2 days, whenever we take friends there for a weekend they love it and don't get bored at all after 2 days.
I'm guessing that yall don't want to shell out the cash for a day at Breck/Keystone/Copper/WP? Maybe you could do a day at Monarch, Cooper or Granby instead? Those would all be great (Monarch probably being the best) and wouldn't have the lift prices of the Epic and Ikon resorts. Those mountains are a lot more beginner/intermediate friendly too.

As said before some of the blues are pretty tough at A-Basin, there is enough there for a day and the views alone will make it worth it. If you decide to go there I could give you some advice on what to avoid, for example the blue runs in the Beavers are really black runs at most places. The blue runs off of Lenawee are good for intermediates, Columbine down the Montezuma bowl is another option but the other blue run Larkspur gets a bit steep at the top but once you get past the steep section it does mellow out.
I think a day at A-Basin and a day Copper or Loveland would give you plenty to stay occupied with.
Copper is one of my favorites and they have a plethora of blue runs, the mountain literally has an entire area that is great for green/blue skiers. Very easy drive from Silverthorne.

I really appreciate all the feedback. We've already taken two pretty pricey trips in the last couple months. One being to breck where we skied peak 8 & 9 for 4 days and a weekend trip about a month ago to keystone for 2 days. I skied one black at keystone and almost shite my pants. I can do it but I'd rather the blues and greens (mostly blues) until I get a little more experience. I really appreciate all the info . This board is great.
I found a good deal on a hotel in georgetown for the weekend so we will give loveland a go most likely. I think its a pretty easy drive from g-town.

Loveland is awesome. Honestly so underrated. Great terrain, relatively uncrowded, and very cool non-corporate vibe. I definitely recommend Chet's Run off Lift 8 and Rookie Road off Lift 9 for the best views on intermediate runs. Dealer's Choice is a fun and relatively easy mogul run off 6 that isn't too steep. Apollo is a fun run off of 4. Fun more difficult blues are Spillway off Chet's, Fire Cut off Ptarmigan.
Lift 6 is pretty awesome, usually has limited line. I'd go to Lift 4 and Lift 8 and Lift 6 over waiting for Ptarmigan, for whatever reason the line for Ptarmigan is usually the longest at Loveland other than Chet's Dream. There is a shortcut around the back of Ptarmigan that can sometimes shorten the line from 10 minutes to a couple but other times people fill up the shortcut pretty quickly.

Thanks man. Ill def check those out. I went ahead and reserved for that Friday we'll be there. Not sure how their lift tickets work . I have an emailed receipt. Not sure if I need to pick up an actual pass when I get there ?
I left that Saturday open until I figure it out. Even though I'm being a cheap arse this go-round part of me wants to shoot over to breck on that Saturday to ski peak 7. (All blues). May do loveland both days but gonna think on it a little more for the Saturday. Appreciate all the good info.

Pho Bay is said to be good if you get a chance to hit it up. Have fun.

Skiing on April 9 and 10th or arriving? Keystone announced a tentative closing day of April 11. Breck will still be open. A Basin has doesn’t have a lot of easy terrain. That area has been pretty thin on snow base so things could get a little sketchy by then. If you don’t need a lot of tourist stuff, check out Winter Park. They have a much nicer snow base as of now.
In other news, Eldora got 7” last night and forecasted for another 43” through Sunday. Of course I leave town for Crested Butte when Winter Park is getting their biggest storm of the year.

Arriving on 8th and skiing 9th and 10th. I booked loveland for 9th but have left my options open on the 10th for now.

I would check closing dates 100% before booking anything... I echo others above, A-basin is for advanced skiers. Loveland is OK I suppose since you're learning. Copper is a great mountain, would recommend.
I know some resorts have already announced they will close on that Easter weekend (April 3rd/4th).
I am not sure when Eldora closes but I am positive you could find a lovely Airbnb in the mountains and ski there (its an easy drive from DIA). They also have the best town with such character for after the mountain. As beginners you would probably enjoy that for two days.
If you do stick to Georgetown and ski Loveland - the brewery on the lake in GT is new and cute (food is meh) for an apres beer, and the town itself is the most perfect mountain town, gorgeous views across the lake.
