Steamboat bout to get the goods. Everywhere is going to be such a shite show this coming holiday weekend I am not sure it will feel worth dealing with I-70 and crowds. Everyone coming in travel well, be safe, and have fun
Heading to Steamboat Saturday....a friend just sent this to me

That's typical Colorado. A little on the liberal side but not enough to force it down your throat...yet

Friday morning
Tuesday is the new Friday and 5:45a from Denver is the new 7:30a.

I land into Denver around noon on Saturday. I figured the weekend traffic is mostly Friday after work or Saturday morning so it shouldn't be too bad then. Am I off?

You should be good.
Of course there is always the possibility of a wreck or chemical truck convoy through the tunnel if it’s snowing. Sunday mornings are no joyrides either.
I70 Travel PSA: If traffic is bad on 70 heading into Idaho Springs, Waze will tell you to take HWY 40 which parallels 70 then T’s into HWY 6. Don’t do it!! You will be caught in a single line 2 miles long waiting at a stop sign. 10 mph is better than 2 mph.

Going to steamboat saturday.
From what i saw on their facebook page it was a total shitshow last weekend. Pics looked ridiculous at the gondola line. 2 hour waits. Not looking forward to it with the holiday weekend. It will be worse

Ikon base passholders will be blacked out and they have stopped selling day passes. I think things should be better.

I got in line 8:30 Sunday for the gondola (dropped kids off at ski school). Line was backed around the truffle pig to the ticket office. Took me 45min-1hour from there.

Thanks for the info. Was that only for first ride or was it like that all day?

Good question. We’re gonna find out
I land at 4:50 MT and driving to Vail. I’ll let you know how it is on the ground.

First ride. Mid day was about a 20 minute wait. Yesterday was much better, only 15 minutes first thing (I didn’t come down mid-day so can’t comment on that wait). Today the lift lines were waaay down compared to Sunday and yesterday. Virtually non-existent at morningside, sunshine, sundown/elk head. There were never more than 2 groups ahead of me and most of the day I got straight on the lift with no one ahead of me.

They just opened Grouse Mountain at Beaver Creek for the first time this season. Windblown crusty powder 2 ft deep or so. It was great skiing given the conditions of the rest of the mountain.
What are you saying about the rest of the mountain?

The Christie lift is the way to go...it may take just as long but at least you're not just sitting in a line
Posted on 2/9/21 at 8:38 pm to tgrbaitn08
Except the line at Christie was almost as bad, and then you have to ski down to thunderhead and wait on that lift (where lines are also bad) to catch it to get to where the gondola takes you. People were driving up and dropping folks off at thunderhead.
People in the gondola line were asking steamboat staff members if they should catch Christie to thunderhead, the staff were telling them no way they would do that, that they would wait even longer.
I heard a lot of complaints to staff on Sunday morning about wait time. The head of ski patrol even got up on the stage with a microphone to explain why they couldn’t open the lifts/gondola earlier and basically emcee to help pass the time in line.
