Isn't that exactly what CAD was saying?

Here's the 2012 version.

I would not be happy if Google Play Music chose that one.

I just opened up Spotify and searched for "Mr. Blue Sky"
The original is the first result. It's also the #1 most popular track listed under the artist's page. So no, the re-recording wasn't done to get around royalty issues with the original.
I had to go out of my way and go to Artist -> Compilations -> Very Best of ELO (2012) and select "Mr. Blue Sky (2012 Version)" to get the version he's talking about. He's just ranting and being dramatic.

ok boomer. i've had this happen with tears for fears and other artists as well. i have to spend extra time finding the original albums to add or else i get the remastered by default or sometimes the original album is not there at all.

try looking up something like 'moving pictures' as the artist and 'what about me' as the song and tell me what plays for you. good luck finding the original.

streaming is 'good enough' right? its ok that stuff comes and goes all the time or some artists never show up.

Some of those originals are just lacking. Might not notice it on your little Sonos speakers but on a more dynamic system the remastered are the way to go.

tell that to the audiophiles who only listen to the japanese black pressing of dark side of the moon from the 1970s.

My point was that curating a tremendous library -- with a longer runtime than you can ever realistically listen to -- is a waste of time.

i dont disagree except that when i have my own library i have full control. google music is notorious for removing tracks from playlists without explanation. i'm guessing it has to do with licensing deals like netflix but its annoying as hell that i set up a perfect playlist only to find 50% of it gone. this has happened so many times that i am at the point of creating playlists only from my core library and not 'the larger world' of google music. i'm not imagining it either because the tracks simply show up 'grayed out' and it will skip right over them. i have several right now i can show as an example. maybe google is punishing me for getting in at the $7.99/mo tier.

my point is i've had to downgrade to a crappier product in streaming under the guise of 'now you have everything!' but that's not really the case.
