Friend said he was talking with wife over cell phone about having trouble with manual can opener. the next morning he has ads on his pc containing can openers!. (he did not search or surf about openers at all).

Is there google like programs on cell phones that produce info like regular cookies thru voice key words?

Regardless of what everyone says, no there is not. However, your search history, Gmail content, and browsing are all used to serve ads. Most people aren't as unique as they think they are. Also how many times have you talked about a product and didn't get ads for it? Nobody keeps track of that until one coincidence. Also Google accounts work across multiple devices so he could be getting ads in his PC based on something he looked at on his phone.

There's a Reply All podcast about this phenomenon. Their conclusion was Google isn't listening it, but their data mining is very sophisticated. Your friend might not have searched for the can opener, but his wife maybe did, and Google knows their married so targeted the ad at him.
