Can anyone recommend something less expensive than Control 4 (C4) that will allow me to select audio source and send audio source up to 4 different zones and control volume etc from a tablet or phone that is NOT SONOS? I do not want to buy a ton of SONOS amps and/or connects not can I afford C4 (not OT baller)

TIA

Yeah I know Denon and Yamaha both have their own version of SONOSesque stuff but is there anything I can add to my existing amps instead of buying all new amps?

ETA: b/c if I have to buy 2 new Denon amps, it might be just as easy/expensive to buy some connects, right?

You could buy a couple of the Bose SoundTouch Link adapters. It is their version on the connect and is half the price. Currently prefer their app over the SONOS.

You do realize if you went with a control system like C4 you are getting a lot more than just Sonos type music streaming devices?

I understand that. But I'm not willing to drop 15-20K on whole house automation

what do you like about the app? Is it better than or the same as chromecast music? I can't find any reviews on the Bose Soundtouch Link Adapter

I like the layout better but that can all change when they do updates.

I’m not familiar with chromecast music.

I spent around $3k total for my Control4...I use it to control my audio/video, lights, and motorized shades in the theater. That included installation and all hardware.

Yamaha MusicCast is quality shite. But i already had the AV receivers to drive them.

Anyways, it’s just wireless speakers. How often do you have different music playing in four zones of your house? Why not just carry a speaker with you now and then? I get the desire for convenience. I’m a gadget junkie.. but unless you wanna spend a few thousand for stuff that may be obsolete in a few years, yeah I’d just move a speaker now and then.

3K per room seems a bit steep

It's not 3K per room. To control the house you need a platform (brain). The platform can control multiple rooms.

This is what I want:

I would like to have 3 (or 4) zones that can all play the same thing or play independently of each other. I would like to maintain a 3.1 system in my living room or possibly upgrade to a 5.2 system. I would like 2 in ceiling speakers in the kitchen. I would like 2 in ceiling speakers in my outdoor deck to use alone w/ my Klipsch AW-650 speakers for the yard. I would like a TV in each zone and would like my speakers in each zone to have the ability to play what's on the TV in that zone or something different (sports on TV and music on speakers). I would like my TVs in zones 2 and 3 to have the option to play whats on the TV in zone 1 or something different via a Fire TV etc. I believe I would like to have a soundbar on the TV in zone 3 so that I can have better sound for what's on the TV (sports) but have the speakers in zone 3 playing music. I would like to be able to control the volume of the speakers on the porch and the speakers in the yard independently of each oth er (need a 4th zone?)

Crutchfield suggested linking a Yamaha Aventage 2080 and 680 and using musiccast

A friend suggested Control 4

Another friend suggested Sonos Connects and a multichannel 4 zone amp like Audiosource AD508 along w/ my current AVR

Isn’t this what a SONOS connect:amp is for?

I had planned to buy regular outdoor speakers and hardwire them to a connect:amp, which I thought would allow me to stream music to those speakers and to my existing SONOS speakers.

Is that not right?

Yes. but not sure I want to buy 3 sonos connect amps and a sonos connect. Plus, not sure the sonos connect amp would be powerful enough to push my Klipsch AW-650s.

Maybe SONOS should stop price gouging and sell a 6 zone connect amp that allows a different source in each zone or sell the Connects for less money.

Just don't. Put a nice stereo in the living room and maybe a smaller setup somewhere else. Ceiling speakers are too much of a compromise, just buy beautiful speakers and a nice looking setup. Run an AppleTV or something similar to control everything through it.

You obviously weren't following. I currently have a nice Paradigm 3.1 system in the living room running off an old Yamaha Aventage receiver. I am putting ceiling speakers/outdoor speakers in the other zones.

I just came across VSSL and it seems like it is a multichannel multizone SONOS connect amp that allows you to use the native music apps. But it aint cheap.

Control 4 is only as good as the people who design, install, and program it.
