Control 4 can't do this I don't think. My parents just got it. Installer said something about the hdmi or some bullshite. I wanted to play the football game and listen to music and it couldn't he claimed. Plus if you don't have an apple device with airplay, you can't even stream Spotify to it. I can't play Spotify to it from my android. Not impressed with control 4 at all. Not to mention, the tech has had to come out about 3 times to fix various issues. And I have had to delete and re install app on a couple of different phones to get it to work.

Guess what does this with ease? Let the downvotes flood in

Comparing C4 and Sonos is ignorant. They are two different animals. One is a home control system the other is an audio system. Yes, C4 has audio components, but it also integrates with 3rd party components too. Even Sonos. It’s completely scabable and custom to your home.

This isn’t the first time Neauxla has had a topic on what to do with his system. From all the information he’s given on the topic my opinion is C4 isn’t what you are looking for brah.

I understand that. I was just referring to his struggles with the audio system.

Control 4 looks intriguing but what does it do that a smart hub, IFTTT, and someone with some tech sense can’t? I see it works with Alexa. Alexa and a smart hub can work sonos, lights, alarm, etc. what does control 4 provide in addition.

so what route would you go?

Sonos connect amps for each zone
Multichannel amp and Sonos connects for zones plus AVR for main room
Linked denim heos or Yamaha aventage with music cast apps
Something else?

Think I already told you what I would do in a previous thread.

First you have to decide if you want to scrap your current amps.

Control4 is ONLY a Remote Control system. You need all the other shite to control.

here are a bizillion ways to do it but if you were my friend I’d tell you to buy two Onkyo receivers, a pair of speakers for the kitchen, another for rears in the main zone, and a HDMI splitter. You will need other misc parts but that’s the big parts. I’m assuming you have good WiFi in your home ? Put a tx-nr585 (or higher ) in th main zone for 5.1 and run zone 2 to the kitchen speakers. I’d also put a volume knob in the kitchen, but it’s not necessary. Plug Fire TV into AVR. Gonna need an analog audio for zone 2 if you want TV audio to play there. Use a tx-8260 (or higher) for the 4 speakers on the outside zone. Could also run volume knobs out there to especially if the stereo is in a remote location. You would also have to get the audio from the fire TV and send it to the stereo. Depending on the output of the Fire TV you have a few options. Run HDMI to the displays from the cable box, you run HDMI to the AVR first in the main zone then the TV. You need to also run a right left RCA audio out the cable box to the AVR in the main zone and to the outside zone. Gonna need misc y splitters and RCAs. Downloaded the Onkyo app and use. It will combined all the zones into one handy little app that is so easy to use CADs wife knows how to use it.

Ok, since my original post I’ve replaced my infinity HT speakers with Paradigm P80-IW for LR and Paradigm Prestige 55C. Out of Onkyo, Denon, and Yamaha, you prefer the Onkyo app? What do I need to push my new Paradigms? Does Onkyo work with amazon echos like the Yamahas do?

All you need is a few chromecast audios.

$35 each at bestbuy

How to create an audio group

Multi-room playback allows you to cast the same music to several speakers at the same time. You can use this feature to enjoy your music all around your home. Once you’ve created your group, your favorite music and audio from Chromecast-enabled apps are instantly available to cast.

Create an audio group

From your mobile device, open the Google Home app ?.

In the upper right corner of the home screen, tap Devices ? to see your available Chromecast Audio or speaker with Chromecast built-in. Note: All audio devices must be set up on the same Wi-Fi network, and on the same Wi-Fi network as your mobile phone or tablet.

In the top right corner of the Chromecast Audio or speaker with Chromecast built-in you'd like to set up in a group, tap the device card menu ?> Create Group.

The default name of the group is "Home group". To rename the group, erase the name and type in something new.

You will now see a list of all available speakers, including Google Home, if available.

To add or remove a speaker from the group, tap the box next to its name. A check will appear in the box next to the speaker’s name to indicate whether it will be associated with the group. ? Note: At least two speakers must be selected to create a group.

Tap Save.

After the speakers have been successfully added to the group, you will see the group device card within Devices ?. Note: It may take up to 5-10 seconds for the group device card to appear in the Google Home app. Tap Speakers in Group to see which speakers are associated with the group.

If the changes were not successful,

If none of the speakers were added to the group, you will see this error message: Can’t create “XX” group. Devices aren’t responding. This article may help troubleshoot the issue.

If at least one speaker was successfully added but not all, you will see this error message: “XX” group created, but some devices were unsuccessful. This article may help troubleshoot the issue.

I would like my TVs in zones 2 and 3 to have the option to play whats on the TV in zone 1 or something different via a Fire TV etc.

You don't need automation for this, it's called the channel button.

I've looked at Chromecast. How does Chromecast handle a receiver w/ A and B zones? Do I need 2 chrome casts? Can I switch on and off each zone w/ the app or do I have to do it on the receiver?

As far as a 2 zone reciever you would need a separate chromecast for each zone. Once you do that, you can pair the zones however you want in the app.

this is a whole home chromecast article

looks like a multizone multichannel amp w/ CCAs on each zone would work great for music but I'm not sure how it will work if I want to play the audio for what's on the TV on the speakers in that zone.

Also, to play it on my AVR, I guess I would have the extra step of changing the input on the AVR. (not a big deal)

Saw your post yesterday, and yes I missed the 3.1 setup. I'm a 2.0 guy, and I think getting more into accurate reproduction/amplification is rewarding in a way spreading so-so sound throughout your house is not. Digress over...

You want every one of those ceiling speakers playing in MONO, all of the sound coming out of every speaker. Damn near everyone and every bar I go into has some multi channel amp playing a L or R signal, or worse, a surround L or R. Drives me fricking nuts. Please don't do this.

So you don’t like listening to music in the kitchen while you cook or outside while you’re in the yard? Or you move your towers and amp with you to each room you want to listen to music in?

CAD has a stereo set of speakers mounted behind the curtains in the bedroom playing some sweet sweet love-making tunes.

A mono speaker in the dining room hidden on the kredenza.

surround setup in the den (sometimes i pipe the TV sound to all my speakers)

mono speaker in my wife's hair salon.

stereo speakers in the living room.

stereo speakers + sub on the back porch.

rarely are any of these rooms playing the same music.

I can hear my stereo in the shower back in my bedroom if I want...and no one else is in the house.

My kitchen area is just off the living room, and that's mostly where we listen to the stereo from. The Apple TV remote controls everything...but the output goes to an Apple Airport which is bit perfect from my music collection. Optical output to my DAC, RCA to my integrated amplifier. I can see the TV for album art and or YouTube videos or whatever.

You didn't answer my question. What do you do about music that is NOT in the living room or directly connected thereto?

Don't listen to music? Or drag your equipment into the room?

IDK, I guess I'm a bit more deliberate with music, I don't just have background pandora playing all of the time. I listen to an album, or watch a full live show, or let YouTube run with an artist while I cook. I use the stereo for movies or sports as well.

Maybe we don't have the same needs, or wants. If I have sound I want it clean. I don't need random music playing when I brush my teeth. We'd probably have NPR playing if we had full house sound, and no one needs that.
