Who plans to order a new iPhone?

I saw where the new phones are going to be introduced on the 12th. I still have a 6 so I'll probably get one as long as it's not stupid expensive. If it's to expensive I'll probably just get a 7.

It will be...just a heads up.

The iPhone 8 is rumored to start at $1,000. There should also be a 7s and 7s Plus that will be cheaper. I would just get a 7 off of Swappa after the new phones are released.

The moment the 8 goes on sale is the moment I order the 7 at a lower price

Yea, I've heard that. With that NEXT plan I don't want to pay some crazy amount for a damn phone. My 6 honestly still works pretty good, but the battery life is terrible. I've already replaced the battery once, and that helped for a few months, but it's back to sucking again. If there's a 7S i might look into that option

You still were paying a crazy amount before. If they kept the old system around with the expected iPhone 8 price point you'd probably be looking at a $399-$499 upgrade fee and maybe a 3 year commitment instead of 2. You were never getting a free lunch, they were just hiding the true cost from you.

Need to see if this is real first. If it's not the S model and part of a mid year release then I will get the new iphone +.

They are seriously getting that much closer to being an Android clone.

This is my plan. I need one for me and one for the wife so an 8 at that price point is out of the question.

Yes, I understand that. It just screws with my mind when I see an additional charge that I now know is for the phone.

Do you mean you think you'll have to pay 400-500 bucks plus a month NEXT deal? That seems like that'd be stupid.

It'll probably be a gamble, but unless I think there is a real chance the backlog will be many weeks or months, I'll preorder the 8. I just moved from Project Fi to AT&T to prepare for preordering.
If for some reason it's very obvious I won't get the 8/X/whatever without a long wait, I might get a 7s plus

I just replaced my 4-1/2 year old iPhone 5 with an SE which is the same size but has updated internals. The SE has good battery life and for me, it's a phone.

I don't understand the edge to edge display. Most people put a case on their phone, and usually, the bezel is covered by the case.

I wasn't talking about NEXT. I was saying if the old program was still around that tricked your mind into thinking phones were cheap, the upgrade fee would be $399-$499 instead of what most people used to (and sadly still do) think a smartphone "costs", $199.

I don't really understand people getting that worked up about paying 700-1000 for a phone. I mean, I guess I reconstruct how they get to that point, but it's not very rational.
I gauge value based on use. I have no problem paying 300+ for headphones that get used for a few hours almost every day. That is a lot of value for something I really enjoy. And while the SQ difference from 20 dollar headphones may not be worth it for minimal use, it is over the long term.
Similarly, for a phone, most of us use them constantly. I'm not one of these people who watches movies or plays games on their phone, but apparently there are tons of them. So something that'll you'll use 3/4s of every day for a couple of years, is it worth a premium price? Probably, in my mind.

That's exactly the problem. Steve Ballmer famously talked about how big of a failure the iPhone would be because it was so expensive and has since admitted that he didn't seen the Wireless Carrier subsidy model coming. Without the "first hit free" we got because of the subsidies, we'd probably all still have flip phones.

Verizon just let's me turn in my iPhone 7 and get a new 7s for free as long as I extend my contract for another two years.

They start running out of new ideas so they start fricking up stuff that works right. See headphone jack, beveled display, fingerprint reader.
Next they will make the phones even thinner and less battery life.

I'm due for an upgrade and my 6 is shattered and the battery is shot to hell. The 8 can't come out soon enough.

I thought Verizon had moved away from this model.
