aaahh not so cheap

quote:It's anyone's guess, but odds are the 5G ones will make more just due to the fact that they also have a LoRa radio like the regular helium miners.
the plain helium miners, if you can get one, are cheaper than that. i wonder the mining differences.
I'm getting into it for the long haul, though. Think about what this is: a community-owned 5G network. Hotspot owners/operators will get rewarded not only for building the network (via mining), but also will get a share of the fees for use of the network (via service/data payments from subscribers).

The email I got said my reservation ID number is __________. You will need this ID number to place your final order.
Lol. I immediately replied with a screenshot and asked what my id number is.

From Reddit:
For everyone hot on 5G hotspots: the reward mechanism is different to LoRaWAN hotspots
Before you try to get a 5G hotspot, please note what I learned on the Helium Discord today:
As of at the moment: There is no reward planned for proof of coverage. The 5G hotspots will only be rewarded for transporting data.
This means: you will get no reward for just putting up hotspots and providing coverage - unlike the Helium LoRaWan hotspots. You will earn only if 5G devices use your hotspot to connect to the internet.
I am not saying:
• putting up 5G hotspots is not worth it. (Especially if there a products that are combined 5G and LoRaWAN hotspots).
I am saying:
• trying to find out, if you have a good/worthy location to put one in, is very important before you buy.
As always: if experts see that I got something wrong, please let me know.

My ID number is incredibly, stupidly close to 2^32. It is within 0.001% of the maximum value of a 32 bit integer, and yours might have overflowed.

Was thinking of buying one of the cheap bobcat models.

Yea, and it's impossible to mine it without some solid ASICs
Halving is not why it isn’t impossible to mine. ASICS and farms are and that is why you farm other coins. Im waiting for my helium hotspots to come in and have put a down payment on miners for the new freedomFi 5g network that’s coming. Even if you do not make a fortune on any of these, decentralizing should motivate people. The long term cost savings if you use these alt banking, WiFi, cellular systems will pay for the equipment alone.

How does this work as far as people using your node? Would someone have to be a Helium subscriber to use these 5g nodes (and generate money for me) or is Helium brokering these out to the big networks where anyone with a 5G device can use them? I'm trying to figure out for profitability am I dependant on anyone with a 5G device, or only people "with Helium" and a 5G device?

Ordered 4 for me and my brother.
I just converted to some USDC in Coinbase to pay for it and it didn't take long at all but Helium hotspot app's authentication is a pain in the arse.

Per my confirmation email:
quote:
Your miner will ship in 8-12 weeks from the time you placed your order.
Hoping it doesn't take that long but I think we should still be able to break even by the end of year either way.
