It's been a rough couple of weeks for Helium. There were multiple blockchain halts, which completely shut down earnings. Things are starting to settle back down now, so I'll chalk it up to growing pains and keep chugging along.
I've been up and running for 3 weeks now, and my total earnings so far are 0.143 HNT, which is currently worth about $6.50.
That's obviously nothing to write home about, but I am optimistic for a few reasons:
1. A full 7 days of those 21 I got 0 rewards due to blockchain outages, so that's really only 2 weeks worth. Still not great, but...
2. I have had 0 witnesses so far. This was expected for my location with the stock antenna, so...
3. I upgraded my antenna during the downtime to a 5.8dbi. Still no witnesses to my beacons, but I did manage to witness a beacon from quite far away today. However...
4. My new antenna is in my attic. As soon as I get some free time during daylight hours I will get it mounted up on the roof. I am hopeful that I will get some witnesses after that.

I’m in rural alabama mountains right now and I see some cell towers that would probably hit Montgomery, Bham and maybe even ATL with a 8dbi antenna.

The last mntd drop was a shitshow. They got hammered with 20 million bots but only had about 10k units to sell. I spent 75 minutes clicking a button over and over for nothing.

Got my invite too, didn't pull the trigger yet. Gonna see how these guys handle the next week after all the blockchain issues of late.

Earnings have really picked up lately. I'm using my new antennas but haven't mounted them up high yet. I'm averaging about .5 HNT per week on 2 bobcats. As long as Helium doesn't bottom out I should recover the cost sometime next year. For the first few months it was looking like it was gonna take years to break even.

It's all about the witnesses and witnessing. Your miner will only send out a beacon roughly every 6 hours, but so do all the others around you. The ones making the most have dozens of miners all around so they're witnessing beacons every few minutes. And for that it's all about height and line of sight. I think there's one on top the Marriott in BR that says it's 70 meters high. It's getting witnesses in Lafayette and NO and it's making about $400/month.

My nebra blows. It keeps saying it needs attention but it’s not clear on what’s wrong. I’ve reset it a few times and it will work for like 24 hours.
I want to put it up in my attic but if I have to continually reset it then it’s not going to be easy to access.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Maybe keep an eye on the helium discord, there's always talk of firmware updates and manufacturer-specific stuff.
Whether you put it in the attic or not, I would put it on a smart plug. I would hope they get the kinks worked out and eventually it'll just keep chugging along, but smart plugs are life savers for any device that might need a reboot here and there.

yea my location SUCKS. i have barely made in anything in the few months i have had it.
i just intalled a 5.8db antenna on a pole tied to a fence. so its like 12-15 ft tall now. i wish i could mount it on top of my chimney.

There is another miner 2 hexes over from me, been there for a few months. I talked to him about it and his antenna is indoors and not doing any witnessing. Since I upgraded to the 5.8dbi antenna it looks like I'm on pace to make twice what he is, and that's only due to picking up one beaconer. I think I can pick up quite a few more, then I'll be making 5-10x what he is. That would be maybe $100 or so per month, not great but not awful. Again, I'm in it for the long haul and I'm betting on Helium being a big player in IoT for the next decade or two.

I got my freedomfi on Friday. Debating to keep or flip. Scouting a few good locations but if I can't lock down something I'm prob gonna flip it on ebay.
