What smart home gadgets are worth it

Met with a smart home consultant today - building a house so will be wiring heavily during build out - he had a gadget for everything
what are your smart home gadgets that you cannot live without?
Nest?
Cameras?
Lighting?
Tv/Audio
Any help would be great

Locks. Having a smart lock is super convenient. Never again hand out a key, just give them a code that they can use with their phone. Unlock your doors from your driveway. Lock your doors from your bed.

I’ll second the smart locks. I finished my build in December and haven’t had to use a key. The kids can come in and out and I get a notification on my phone any time someone uses a code to get in. I also have it set up to to automatically lock when both my wife and I are away from the house.
I would also highly recommend the Lutron Caseta switches, dimmers, and fan control. The exterior lights are on a dimmer and I have them set to a schedule. Laying in bed and being able to control the lights and fan with an echo dot is really nice.

Battery life really isn’t an issue. My most used lock is in the garage. After 6+ months, my battery life is still at 71%.

I was worried about batteries too. My August home lock gave me a 20% warning after a year so I just went ahead and changed them.
I also love never having to pull out anything to open the front door. Bluetooth let’s it know when you are approaching and it unlocks. It’s great.

Nexx is what I have. It’s easy to set up and I have had zero issues with it.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. nothing but problems.
NEXX - easiest and you can use voice/alexa (myq could support voice, they choose not to.)
myq doesn't work w/ all manufacturers.
i use linear openers that are zwave and i love them but they're not for someone looking for simplicity. you have to buy a hub and do some scripting to get them running properly but once you do its amazing what these can do.
oh and the myq monthly charge to use IFTTT? what a joke. these clowns are shameless.
eta biggest difference is myq has some bullshite wireless 'pairing' requirement when you install and you and i both know how pairing shite with garage door openers goes. you'll likely have issues.
nexx and go-control splice into the doorbell wiring at the garage door controller to control the garage door like a switch so they will work with A*N*Y*T*H*I*N*G guaranteed. no problems since they're acting as a switch it doesn't matter who the manufacturer is.

because you're not thinking this through
- laying cozy in bed at night; oh shite did i close the door after i finished in the yard? 'alexa close garage door'.
- schedules; my house 'goes to bed' at 10:30 every night and automatically shuts the garage doors, locks the doors, turns all the lights out, etc. peace of mind.
- you're at work and you get an alert your wife left the door open. you gonna leave it open all day or you gonna hit 'close' on your phone and go back to work?
- you kid gets home from school and they're locked out of the house? no problem open the door remotely.
- you're on vacation and you need to let a neighbor into your garage to replace or borrow a tool..no problem.
tons of other use cases. geo-fencing so it always closes when you leave even if you forget to close it, monitoring how many times your garage doors open in a day, etc.

also i have an issue with humidity in my garage so i have a dehumidifer in there running 24/7. i have my doors set to close 20 minutes after opening because if not the poor dehumidifier gets overwhelmed in the summer.
when i'm not home and my wife is playing outside, washing dogs, walking back and forth to the pool etc. she absolutely does not think about closing the doors so its nice to have them close on their own.
if i need them open longer i just put a box in front of the eye so they don't close.
