What are some good tablet options?

i am looking to try to force myself to adopt tablet use in my work life finally. i have dabbled, but only with the lowest of the low end (super cheap like $100 varieties) and if i invest a little more money i'm more likely to adopt the tech
i prefer android to apple (i did hear the new ipad is really good and only around $300 so that's enticing)
i don't know if i want to drop $600 on the Pixel C (especially since the components will add a few more hundred if i want to go all in), so i'm kind of sorting this in my head into "extreme and budget" with budget being more in the $200-350 range and the extreme being the Pixel C or Galaxy Tab S2
while the high end is appealing, i just don't know if i'll use/need that much power. i'm going to do basic office use with my final Office license and pretty basic media use. having a stylus option is potentially a bonus for taking hand-written notes in real time. obviously browsing, but i don't think that is really an issue across the board (even to the low end). battery life matters to me a bit. audio doesn't (if i was using it for audio-related media and quality mattered, it would be run through headphones or my bluetooth speaker)
for the budget range, i'm looking at the Asus Zenpad 10.1" or maybe the Lenovo YogaPad 10.1"
for the extreme range, i'm looking at the Pixel C or possibly a higher-end Ipad (but that's going to take a lot of enticing)
*ETA: the thread is asking for experience-related comments as well as potential suggestions other than those i listed

I got a samsung A 10.1 with S-pen and it meets most of my needs. I think there's a new Samsung S3 tablet or something though that has a keyboard and pen but it's closer to the 500-700$ range.

i have used cheap tablets for the last 5 years. recently picked up the 2017 ipad at sam's as it was on sale. the experience is night and day compared to budget tablets. of course you would expect this with the increased price, but it makes me happy i invested some money this time.

i think a portion of my absoltue hatred of tablets may be due to this
but i'm still always going to be laptop dominated. kind of makes me want to consider a windows laptop, but i REALLY don't feel like dropping $1k+ on a good MS Surface

I have an iPad Pro 12.9" with logitech CREATE keyboard/case
Have not opened a laptop at home but maybe 2 times in the last year.
I'd also recommend Surface pro 4

I absolutely love my Surface. I haven't touched our laptop at home since getting one unless I need to use a disc.

Samsung Galaxy works just fine. Three in my house have the galaxies 7" and 10.1" and all work great. Find one on sale for 150-200 and get it.

I got the new iPad. Nothing bad to say really.

The new 10.5 and 12.9 iPad Pro's blow away the rest of the competition...or so I've heard.
Had an iPad 2 for years and loved it. Had to sell it once it finally started slowing down some 5 years later.
Will probably be replacing with a 10.5 pro.

I had the pixel c but it really needs better stylus support.
Picked up a Chromebook plus to replace it since it will flip into tablet mode and has a Samsung pen. Only knock was Microsoft is being a bitch and blocking access to office Android apps in the playstore.
Picked up a 10.5 iPad pro along with an apple pencil and it's worked great for note taking and office docs.
Keeping Chromebook plus to keep Android fix and as lighter option for carrying around in place of my MacBook pro, since Chromebooks have full desktop version of Chrome with flash. iPad pro is now my go to for meetings.

I got an Asus Transformer T100 a few years ago. While it is old and slow, it runs full Win10 with Office. I use it in Win10 tablet mode and I love the thing. I am an IT professional with more than 20 years experience and it might be the best device I have ever owned.
The latest comparable version is the Transformer T101HA. It ships with Win10. I know Windows gets puked on a lot here, and in part, for good reason. But with a detachable keyboard and a full Windows OS, I find it hard to beat. Between work and home, I have multiple Android, iOS, and Windows tablets. I use the Asus Windows tablet exclusively.
I am not discounting the effectiveness of Android and iOS tablets. Many are great devices. However, I can't fire up full versions of Office apps like Excel and Outlook on them. Your needs may be different than mine but I highly recommend the Asus Transformers. Here is a link if you are interested Asus Transformer T101HA at Amazon Good luck.

i saw at office depot they had a Galaxy S2 for $300 (lower than anywhere online)
i know it's the "old" model but would i really be hampered by it? or, in other words, is spending $700 on the Pixel C or SP4 worth the price jump?

I just ordered the Galaxy Tab S3. Yes, it's expensive for an android tablet, but its got some great specs (HDR!!) and the S pen (which imo is worlds better than the apple pencil) is included free. Apple pencil is going to cost another $100 on top of an already pricey device. HOWEVER, I did get a chance to play with the new iPad pros and the 120hz refresh is pretty nice.
Edit: I would have absolutely gone S2 at $300 (was $200 at office depot a week ago--Wish I could have snagged that deal) if it had wacom/S pen compatibility. Something to consider if you'll be doing any note taking, drawing, etc.

A cheaper option that still has S pen capabilities would be the Galaxy Tab A 10", but I don't know enough about that to offer any advice.
You could also get the last gen iPad pro with pencil to keep it slightly cheaper than the S3. I think there's a bundle on Amazon for that.
Here is the older iPad pro/pencil bundle. Not a bad deal. Going to go up with storage options though.

If you have the money and experience with apple products, go iPad.
