Ways around the cox data cap, put account in name of "home business"

I was told by a friend, and business rep for cox, that their business plans won't carry the same data limits as home plans, and that if you have a "home business" you can get cox business internet at your home if the account is under the business name. The only downside is you must sign a 1 year agreement. SIAP just wanted to let everyone know.

The other downside is that the price is higher. But if you are obliterating the cap every month, you may still come out ahead.

Yeah. You'd have to weigh the costs for sure

I know you get penalized for going over the limit, but is there an option to pay a fee that is lower than the penalty for an increased limit? Kinda like you do with a phone plan?

I have a business line at my house. The price is WAY higher unless you sign a long term contract (talking 4-5 years) and even then it's still higher for lower speeds.
But there are no data caps, that's correct.

I think the higher tier the plan, the higher the cap. Business is the top tier with no cap whatsoever. However, business is a good bit more expensive, or at least it was last time I looked.
A higher tier is going to be cheaper than going over by more than just a small amount.

Word on the street is cox will be offering an unlimited plan later this year, probably in the $120-140 range

1. Customers stop wasting money on overpriced TV, cut monthly bills in half with streaming TV services
2. Cable company caps usage to deter #1, offers to lift cap for double the price
3. Cable company positions itself to generate same revenue regardless of services provided
4. Profit

Business internet isn't a higher tier, it's a different service offering altogether. Business internet tends to be slower speeds for a higher price, but no cap and the speeds are more reliable. Plus you get business tier support and a static IP address, PTR record, etc.
I'm paying $120/month for biz class 100/20.

We all knew that was gonna happen. shite like this is why the cable companies and ISPs need to be considered utilities.

I have 300 down/30 up with Cox (usually get 400/40) and pay $80

Did you threaten to cancel or are getting a promo rate? I pay $99 (regular price) for 300.

You do realize without NN this would all be even worse.

Yes. I obviously poorly worded my post. I was referring to the ISPs agenda regarding net neutrality...i.e ending it.

It's either unreasonable Caps or tiered internet service (which is the supposed threat of no NN)....I bet you that no cap service and the top tier will be very similar in price if not the same.....either way the ISPs win.

You can have un capped internet and untired service at a reasonable price.
