Verizon getting rid of Message+ texting feature on Droids - any tips on other options?

Verizon is shutting down Message+ for SMS in about a month. The other SMS option they recommend is Google Messages.
I have been using Google Messages for bout 3 days. So far not real impressed.
One of my personal pet peeves is Group Texts. If I get tied up in one I always "mute" it so I don't receive the notifications. I have worked on trying to figure out how to mute notifications on texts on Google Messenger but have not had any luck. Anyone here have any tips on how to do that?
TIA

Follow the instructions in the first thing that pops up when you Google "mute notifications in group Google messages"

Google Messages is a very solid texting app. And yes you can easily mute group texts like the post above laid out.

Google messages isn't great at all..... the better half is pissed because it doesn't handle sending half a dozen or more pics at once, everything times out now etc.... (yeah i know, I gave up that battle many years ago)

that is the first thing I did was search via Google- and I am not seeing this option - the"tap more details or more" that is being referenced
Edit: for example this is what I see when I try to follow these instructions to mute notifications

quote:
To mute notifications for a group message in Google Messages, you can do the following:
Open the Google Messages app
Open the group message you want to mute
Tap More Details or More
Select Group details
In the Notifications section, choose Silent

Yeah I don't know what that message is, that doesn't look like a phone number. I just delete those. But if I go to details in an actual group message with real people I know, I can control the notifications. I block/report/delete any group message that's spam.
Also that's not what my Google messages app looks like. Pixel 9 pro XL latest android.

I don't know if something got updated with the app since I last posted this, but I have since figured it out. Thanks for all the suggestions

Still pisses me off how many people aren't using this, all that bitching about imessage and it seems like most Android people are using the carrier message app or textra and don't even have RCS

I'm glad the carriers are forcing these people off the carrier apps.

Click on Details > then click on Notifications > then turn off notifications for that chat
**and I see you figured it out, my bad**

Thx...
For some reason when I first started using Google Messenger earlier last week that function of turning off notifications was not there. I checked again a few days later than all the sudden it was there, go figure
I appreciate you taking the time to respond

Not impressed at all with Google Messages. Looks like crap, no customization. I can't even set up a different sound for text messages on it. Feels like I am going back into the stone age leaving Messages+

I switched to Google Messages and it seems to work fine but I mostly use Microsoft Phone Link instead on my computers. I'm on a computer most of the time and I don't like typing on a phone.

I switched to Google and love it.

You like it better than Message+?
Personally I don't find it as user friendly
- can't see the preview of the text when phone is locked, like I could with Message +
- have to go through more steps to copy a text than I did with Message +
Maybe there are ways around these issues, and I haven't figured it out yet. Still getting used to this new (to me) Google message app

Google messages already has this built in fwiw. You don't have to use a different application.

That's weird. I can on my Pixel 6

You just press/hold on the text bubble then select copy. What other steps are you doing? How can you have fewer steps?

That isn't an option for me. I have to highlight the text bubble, then click the the dots on the top right, then click share, and then click the icon to copy to my clipboard

pretty sure this is a global lock screen privacy setting. you may have allowed your previous app or your previous app may not have met the criteria for "sensitive". either way you can definitely make it so that you can see the content. again, i'd start with googling your problem statement "can't see the preview of the text when phone is locked", first result.
