Upgrade options over 4K firestick

Looking to see what’s good out there. Our 4K Firestick is roughly 4 years old but runs like absolute shite and I’m open to options for similar devices. Parents have a Roku back home which felt nice.
We don’t have a whole lot of apps loaded into the Firestick and I’ve cleared the cache numerous times to get it to normal. I mostly have a problem with a handful of apps crashing at random. Figured it might be better just to upgrade and get a new device since it appears these don’t really have a long lifespan.

My sister has an Apple TV and loves it. I'm in the same boat as you with the Firestick and have thought about upgrading.

I've been happy with Roku for many years. I've had a fire stick or two over the years but the rokus have always felt faster at similar price points. And while Roku is an ad platform it doesn't feel as intrusive, invasive, annoying as Amazon.
They are not without fault of course. I do get the occasional hung app (usually yttv) and they do seem to appreciate a reboot every month or so. But mostly Roku just gets out of your way and lets you watch what you want to watch.

I had use a MECOOL KM2 PLUS TV Box, been great for Game room and travel ~ $85 with a discount code.
Might be gross overkill, but have the Nvidia Shield 2019 $190 in living room.
Powerful, but have had issues with its Ethernet connection lately. Likely will get something else next time.

Yeah I've been in the Roku universe for a long time now and have no complaints.
I hate using fire devices. The Apple device is OK in terms of functionality, but it's just way too limited

I would buy a newer version as they are fairly cheap. I still prefer my Nvidia shield but it's now a few years old and more costly.

Roku is the best option from my perspective.
We've had a Roku TV for many years and it has the best TV interface I have experienced.

I have tried them all. Firesticks, Roku's, Roku's in TV's, Amazon Fire Cube.
The only thing that works consistently and has the best network capability is Apple TV.
We have them in every room of the house with a TV.

If you are not a videophile, get an ONN at walmart for $20 if you like the android platform. Get a Roku stick if you want simple and reliable.

I have an older fire cube wired direct. Ruku doesn't have a browser so that's not a viable option.

What do you need a browser for? There are usually simple workarounds.

In the same boat but my 4k firestick like yours has seen its better days. I also want to stream 4K movies from plex which the firestick seems struggle at. Wishing Nvidia would get in the game and update their current version. Have the 4K Max Firesticks in my basket currently......

what type of files and formats are you trying to play in Plex? If you want Dolby Vision profile 7 and/or lossless audio, you are going to struggle with this endeavor.

Most of my 4K collection is UHD HDR 10 H265 in .mkv. Everything else streams fine which most are 10-bit .mkv files

GOAT.
Nothing else comes close.

and no lossless audio? If you are just doing HDR10 and lossy audio, even atmos, then Roku, AppleTV 4k, FireTV devices, Chromecast and I think ONN can all get the job done.
