The Samsung seems to be having a lot of trouble streaming 4 cameras at once even on small cards.

This would probably be an issue with any device you put on the wall, especially lower end tablets

Most mobile SOCs (not all) have excellent video decoders. Have to make sure the streams you’re sending are compatible with said decoder.

Would also help using sub-streams and not primary streams too. No need for the high res live streams on the tiny tablet

that was my first concern when i started my project as well; originally wanted to use a raspberry pi but the more i read, the more it sounded like spending a few hundred on a mini-pc was a better option for handling all the hi-res video camera streams.

i dont regret it..i probably overbought on the hardware but its very responsive since all it has to do is run a single browser tab in kiosk mode and nothing else. no issues at all with rendering camera feeds or anything.

switching to the SD feeds helped quite a bit and honestly i should've known better. what do i need camera feeds that are 2" from corner to corner in HD for? PoE screens would've been a better choice.

i need a mini-pc bad. i'm running everything off my gaming PC which is an absolute beast but i need something small that can be always on.

Highly recommend Core Ultra mobile chips.

I have Meteor Lake H (P) and Lunar Lake. Both are phenomenal and extremely well supported.

So!

It turns out I’m an idiot (maybe unsurprising to some of you)

I had my picture glance cards using the same camera stream twice somehow. Fixed it and now my camera streams behave perfectly. I ordered a ratgdo to get my garage door in HA and that will finish off my first dashboard.

I played around with starting my version yesterday and today. I went with a Windows Phone layout because I think it fits well with this style project. I got the main engine dialed in today and wired up a few tiles.

I had claude generate an HTML file because that's easiest and best way I figured I could share with you guys. It did a decent job, but it works better in my HA dashbaord.

Dont mind the color pallet and whats on the cards, they are just place holders! On my end, i can swipe up or down to show all 12 of my tiles/bring back the current layout. The buttons under the dashboard are just part of the HTML file to trigger different things that happen automatically on my end.

**Dont press any buttons for about 4 seconds and you can see how it animates in ambient mode. They'll be slower for the final product.

**Click on tiles to open/close them. On the final version, you'll be able to drill down further on some like the cameras to open full screen.

**The "all tiles" button is what happens when you swipe down

**If you are on mobile, rotate your phone

I call it "The Wall"

Very cool!

Your flip card idea is a great way to display allot of info without having too much at one time. I may have to steal some of that.

Curious how you plan to handle the calendar. The data integration was the trickiest part of mine. My work outlook calendar is so locked down I had to do a big work around to get that.. Ended up using Power Automate to write my daily calendar events to a Google sheets at 6am every day then have HA grab that as a csv file every morning to populate my Good Morning dashboard. Every morning at 5am Google erases all the rows so it's only the current events. PA is too stupid to overwrite and just keep appending rows to it.

I'll post the morning dashboard shortly when my TV turns on and displays it at 615am. I love drinking coffee beside the bright and cheerful morning dashboard.

The dewitt weather station integration is SWEET! I love how it automatically switches to the weather radar page when it detects rain outside. The NWS alerts are finally displaying correctly and I left enough space for them.

Also added lightning strikes to the radar loop overlay. Love that! All these storms the last couple of weeks has been perfect for me to dial everything in.

Finally I reworked the Fitbit/Google health dashboard entirely. I was doing a pass through on my phone but Google finished the Fitbit takeover last week so I bit the bullet and fully integrated the Health API which was a pita but now I'm getting more health data points and it's very reliable.

I found the browser was becoming non responsive after a couple of days due to it being shitty and eventually consuming all available ram and coming to a grinding halt. The quick and easy solution was to just have the PC auto reboot every morning so the browser is always fresh and doesn't get weird over time.

I'm about done I think. It feels very professional now and the chefs kiss was the morning and good night dashboards. They really tie the whole thing together.

Eta who am I kidding. This thing will never be done.

I just put our personal google calendars on it. You'd think it'd be one of the simplest things to get wired up, but you have to do a similar labyrinth to everything else.

The real crazy one was my Sensi thermostat. I felt like a hacker after that one! I got approval for the project by telling the wife I can get the baby monitor on it

honestly I cut my teeth coding on the trs80 then fortran, cobol, pascal and C in college then onto scripting with macromind director, hypercard Crystal reports, powerbuilder, cold fusion, SQL server and a dozen Web languages..

I'm going to be very very honest here. I can follow my AI overlord's instructions but after being intimately involved with the setup here I can safely say I would have been able to do 0.00% of this work on my own.

I feel so antiquated. I kinda get what's it doing but pardon me when I say HOLY shite. I'm a fricking dinosaur.

Here OpenAI; take my $20/mo for the rest of my life while I suck greedily at your teat because I have no viable skills anymore.

Eta it's more than a little unsettling. I feel really bad for new tech grads

eta here's the radar loop in action with lightning strike overlay

its so freaking cool. you have to catch it at the right second; those lightning bolts hit (red/white lightning icon) and then instantly turn into the little + icons showing where they hit so you have to be watching to see lightning hit in real time. Watch the first 1-2 seconds of the video.

i had one hit overhead as i was walking the dog this morning and she about lost her mind and so did it. i thought for sure the damn thing hit in my backyard it was so bright.

Check out this HTML file I had Claude make to help me decide on the best integrations/entities and what we can do with them

It uses the check marks to log my decisions and it generates the prompt to feed them all back to Claude. This hurricane tile is gonna be tits.

holy shite what claude model are you using?

makes my whole setup look like dogshit by comparison

to quote captain america "i understood that reference" and about 75% of what you have on here i already know..was just looking at 'ratgdo' and 'konnected' for my friend's garage doors just yesterday.

this looks professional as shite and i got there with mine more-or-less over the last 3 months but holy shite you did as much in a couple of days as i did over several months.

maybe time to cancel chatgpt and give claude another chance.

in the beginning i used claude but he never put something like that together for me..as per usual i'm probably 'doing it wrong' because this is sweet!

honestly looking at this; i weep for anyone who still rolls up their sleeves and codes YAML by hand in HA

cannot fathom anyone in 2026 trying to go it on their own.

It's Opus 4.8 now. I'm building in a Claude Project and I keep 4 different markdown files in the project as information silos. Claude reads them at the start of each new session.

Dashboard-spec.md
Gui-spec.md
Engine-spec.md
Entity-spec.md

I have Claude update whatever file needs updating at the end of each session. He marks what's completed. When I start again, I just say "lets pick up where we left off." I used that HTML to help me build the entity-spec.md today to start using.

In the custom instructions section of Projects you can put things like: I want you to always where these hats- Google app engineer, product design specialist, performance focused programmer, smart home systems integrator. And he'll look at everything through those lenses.

I started following @claudedevs on X and saw a post on using HTML in AI and it's enabled a lot of fun stuff.

well done. you've done your homework.

i tried to use our company copilot premium account and it couldn't even help me write a decent power automate flow. just shite. i spent 2 hours for something that 'feels' like it should have taken 10 minutes.

i've changed models around several times with chatgpt and have torn down 100% of the initial dashboards it created and built them fresh but i feel like a drunk staggering from prompt to prompt with no cohesive guide other than the projects i created.

time to go back to AI school and rethink this whole thing. i feel i'm doing alot more of the work than i should. i can't count the number of times Chatgpt has me run 20 different power shell scripts so it can figure out how to code a py file or proper API integration. it 'feels' like i shouldn't be having to do that much work at this point and your setup basically confirms i'm making this way too hard on myself.
