Are you offloading your detections to something like a Google coral? If not, you need to be

You’re using 4k as a detect stream? That seems unnecessary.
Faces take some practice to train and it’s easy to get a little over optimistic about what you can do with just a surveillance type setup.
I promise Frigate does not suck. They’re stuck in 2022 with object detection due to their stance on permissive licensing but they still unofficially allow the new stuff.

Poe doorbell cam. People aren't in the frame long enough to get a good shot at their face.
Yes I've seen the USB coral thingy but not interested unless I've got a scant hope this will actually work.
So far it's been the most disappointing HA integration I've tried. I'm not giving up yet but I just wanted it to announce who was at my door and it's pegging the CPU and doing nothing constructive that I can see.
My straight up reolink person detection is far better than this. I'm trying to keep an open mind but I'm about to scrap the whole thing.

Unless you’re skipping events, you don’t need more acceleration. You could use a bigger/better model but coral won’t help there as it can only hold tiny models.
I’m using an Intel Lunar Lake mini and it doesn’t skip a single region of interest with relatively huge yolo26 medium until I’m at over 200 detections per second.
I have a camera pointing straight down the sidewalk with ~9mm of zoom/focus and it picks up really great faces w/ 1080p sub stream h265 CBR 2048kbps 5FPS. 5GOP. Fisheye doorbell may not be the right tool for the job.
If faces get you down, move on to state classifications. Literally everything on your property becomes a reliable sensor.

How are you guys implementing security. From my movie understanding that is a risk with Home Asst?

I mean, it all depends on your setup. My security system is running solely on HA, and it's pretty damn secure. You can take down my power and I would still be running. You would have to break into my server room location and kill the server to bring it down.
I only have my entry doors tied in with zigbee door sensors. If the alarm is triggered by an open door for more than 30 seconds, an automation will alert Noonlight, and they will reach out to me about needing to call the cops or not.
If your home is already wired with an older security system, it can be integrated into HA with Konnected. I was going to go this route, but a lot of the already in place sensors for the doors and windows were cut by the previous home owner

i am heading to my friend's house tomorrow (he's 4 hours away) to see how his setup is going.
i had recommended Schlage zwave+ locks and that antenna HA pimps on amazon, but i'm a little worried about range and lack of other z+ devices to start out with in that massive house. in the past i don't think battery-powered z+ devices acted as repeaters so that won't help matters.
any thoughts on a solid set of door locks? we're going local regardless but not sure if we should focus on one mesh or the other in the beginning. i gave him some sonos (gateway mesh drug) already but not sure if we're going with more zigbee or zwave+ in the beginning.
ETA i forget he's also going to have 3 honeywell zwave+ thermostats and those will be hard-wired (c-wire) so that may help spread the love around so maybe the shclage locks will be ok in a zwave+ starved environment in the beginning...

Ok thanks!
What about network security as well?

quote:that's a vague question. Do you have any particular aspect you are curious about? Going with almost all local control devices goes a long way to address potential security breaches.

facebook unlocked all their old portal devices for full android development and apparently they're really good HA devices. going to BR to pick up a portal+ gen 2 today for $50.

I forgot most of this thread. How are you controlling this thing? Number pad?

Working on local voice control now but there's no point to a touchscreen anymore.
I do have a tiny ha dashboard webpage on my phone if I want to select a certain dashboard for testing

That’s the way to go! I’m developing a human-in-the loop app and honestly home assistant architecture just doesn’t support video-game latency real time action so I’m out of that ecosystem other than API. But I thought I’d make a side project home automation dashboard for peeps with screens and wondering what they have available for control for my service worker.

You should see what I'm doing for my friend who's building a house. Insane.
Plumbing his robot vac so water fill and drain are endless; plumbed in coffee machine; leak detectors everywhere, zooz shut off control where the water comes into his house, miniature orange rotating sirens when the robot comes out of his cubby, dual 220 panels with smart energy systems, entire kitchen is thermador and it's all from Bosch so one API will control everything from fridge to wine cooler.. I've had to generate a 6 tab spreadsheet just to keep up with everything. The first tab is just electrical, plumbing and Ethernet runs we still need to make.
It's going to be super sarcastic; when he walks in the Sonos by the front door will tell him "glad you finally made it home. I'm making you a damn espresso."
It's going to take a year to get this dialed in. He still doesn't even have electricity.
ETA see my sister thread on the home and garden board about the elevator he just bought
There's a reason he and I are best friends

So no keypad/keyboard/mouse/whatever?
Posted on 6/14/26 at 11:50 pm to Dallaswho
I have a keyboard/trackpad device under the bar but only pull it out now for catastrophic failures which are pretty rare now that I'm rebooting the PC every morning before the morning dash comes up.
Eta I've removed all the button functions and footers with the links to the other dashboards because it was using up space and never being used.
