For better or worse, I decided to buy my first Galaxy phone. Most of the reviews were very good. And I really like the option of expandable storage.

The screen has curved glass. I read this can be tricky to apply a screen protector. Do you recommend a thicker glass protector or thin film? If a glass protector, how difficult is it to fit a case over it? With a curved glass, is it better to have someone else put it on like Best Buy, or is it simple enough to do it myself without messing it up?

And looking at Best Buy, the selection of cases was very disappointing. I really was wanting a case with some flair or creativity. To those with a similar interest, where did you find a case that had an awesome design or pattern that stood out?

I tried several different of the "tempered glass" screen protectors for my Galaxy 8+ with the curved screen. Tried 4 or 5 different ones included the ones sold by the Verizon store as guaranteed to work, they were ALL terrible and never stayed put for more than a few weeks.

YMMV...such a total waste of money and source of aggravation that I won't try them again...the plastic film ones have made some improvements in quality and the application method prevents 99% of air bubbles.

I've been buying the cases that have the screen protector "built in". They just snap together, seems to work well for me.

What did you have before the galaxy?

Have a friend that works on them.
Says no need for screen protectors, exactly seem to adds to pressure points on sides. Just want a case that if placed face down keeps glass off surface.

An old Galaxy S6 that was painfully slow.

And the surface never gets scratched?

Someone at work just shattered the screen on his iPhone. He said it had an Otterbox case, but I told him the case is junk if the edge of the case doesn't extend beyond the screen so it doesn't absorb all the impact if it lands face down. I won't buy a case that doesn't extend a bit beyond the screen.

Yeah if I made a living fixing screens I'd probably advise that too. I've been using Galaxy flagships, until recently, since the S3, definitely use a screen protector, also definitely don't get a curved screen.

Ah ok, I thought you said this was your very first galaxy phone. I wasn't sure if you were coming from a pixel or something. My pixel 3XL has started to get a little glitch and I may be in the market soon. I was going to ask if you noticed a big difference

Technically not. But I only had the Galaxy S6 since last year. But it's painstakingly slow and unresponsive. And it randomly dies. The battery won't charge over 70%. The charging port won't work. And I hope I never buy anything again that uses crappy micro cables. And it only has 32 GB of storage.

Since this junk phone is probably 5 years old, I figured the new phone I got has been significantly improved. Upon turning it on, some T Mobile animation appeared. But when I went into settings it shows it is factory unlocked. Is that typical?

I have the Galaxy S20 and have gone through several screen protectors that were garbage. I just received one called amFilm HD clear, and it is by far the best I've had. It was $8 on eBay.

I have never used a screen protector and never broken or scratched a screen. Waste of money IMO

You must have quite the impressive grip. I don't trust myself not to have the occasional accident.

I just moved from a 3xl to an S21U a week ago. It's taken a little getting used to, but all in all I like it.

I have had a 3, 6, 8, and on 10+ now with 256 GB expansion card. I have had good luck with the better Spigen cases, and the S10 came with a glass protection screen already installed, you sure the 20 doesn't come with one installed?

Mine didn't come with one. It looks like the phone was never touched when I opened it out of the box. I looked at some Spigen cases, but they look too plain to me. I want something that stands out.

My S20 Ultra came with it installed from the factory out the box.
