Plex has become the latest neutral technology to get slammed for not doing enough to prevent movie and TV show piracy. According to pro-copyright lobby group CreativeFuture, which represents more than 560 companies and organizations, Plex - like Kodi - is a "dangerous digital media player" that has joined the ranks of "internet heavyweights who refuse to take responsibility for the criminal behavior on their platforms."

To be fair and neutral, it is. Although I like Plex.

For them, sure, since it's a "legal" way of allowing me to watch content that someone else (usually) illegally got torrented.

It's all silly to me, Hollywood and the Film industry as a whole is making more F'ing money than ever between:

Amazon Movies
Apple TV+
Netflix
YouTube movies/tv
any other online purchases for movies/tv
Not to mention actual movie theatres racking in $$

I use plex to DVR all my cable tv content that I do pay for.

I use a cable card and hdhomerun.

They shouldn't be able to do anything to plex, because then they should just shut down the entire internet if they want to try to stop piracy. Most people I know who watch movies do it on websites such as 123movies, etc.

Exactly. They just have to keep adapting to the times.

They are certainly not hurting.

All of my Plex content is 100% legally purchased. I do that because I want the highest quality possible. Plex is an incredible tool that I've invested more time than I'd like to admit in configuring playlists, collections, shows, posters, etc...

It's also how I access all my recording of LSU football games. If something happens to plex I will be furious.

These people are so out of touch with reality it’s ridiculous. Even if they released every movie from now on straight to Netflix instead of a movie theater I still wouldn’t watch most of it. I could give two shits about overpaid “celebrities” and their political views. No matter how much they try to shut down piracy it will never work. This is truly the digital age and someone will find a way.

Wait until they find out about Windows Media Player plug-ins, Google Cast, etc.

They're going to be really pissed, then.

This is such bullshite. Why should it be Plex's responsibility to police where their users get their media from? Plex is a media player. Just like Windows Media Player, which has come pre-installed on every PC for decades. Why isn't it Microsoft's responsibility to prevent users from using Windows to download pirated content? Oh, that's right, because that would be A MAJOR frickING PRIVACY VIOLATION.

Probably a dumb question, but how do the porn studios make money? Is it only from the ads on porn sites? How much can all those studios make from ads for fake viagra? I don’t understand the business model but then again, I never really thought about it very much.

Never heard of Jellyfin, looks nice. I might try it out, I wonder how good streaming to your phone is on it? I may check it out.

How does it compare in the real world against Plex or Emby? I'd like to switch to it on my unraid server.

If someone is sharing their server and it has movies and shows that were obtained illegally then yea it isn't preventing copy right infringement

sorry can't take anything you say on plex seriously after you didn't even know that a person could share their home media server to anyone they want using plex
